MMP back-up in case no one else steps up

The big overnight snowfall did not occur. However, it is now snowing gigantic, big flakes and is starting to stick. I am hoping it will melt off or tonight’s commute home is going to SUCK the big one. I am sure my husband is NOT thrilled at all. He’s out there driving in all that crazy Seattle traffic in his big semi. That crazy traffic where people drive stupidly, but it’s ALWAYS the fault of the truck driver. :dubious:

Stop with all this talk of cheesecake. You’re driving me nuts! For the record, I have three springform pans of varying sizes. It’s been awhile since I’ve made a cheesecake. I make a killer cheesecake. My favorite is a kahlua, chocolate, coffee cheesecake. It is to die for.

Well, I better get back to work. Not that I want to. I am very frustrated because one of the data mining systems I use is acting all FUBARRED and will not load.

May I have that recipe, please?

I’m frustrated too because my %$&^* modelling software keeps crashing! I stayed until 6:30 last night and came in at 6 am to get out 4 sheets of crappy drawing - faked - and I’m trying to fix it now.

I’ll have to go home and dig the recipe up. It’s been awhile since I made it. Once I find the recipe, I’ll post it.

Hi! Hi, hi, hi!

I made it through Thanksgiving, although I am Exhausted. It was fun, but it was work, and all the relatives in the house made Baby Cherry a clingy boy, so just being a mother was Work. But it was wonderful having everyone around. The food was tasty, except for the pea cassarole from hell. I had it at a potluck once and got the recipe. It was tasty, at the potluck. The ones I made, not so much. I blame making them a week ahead and freezing. The peas did not accept it and the whole thing looked like black snot.

Yum, huh?

Well, we had one exciting event planned for all the company that we didn’t get around to. So, we did it last night, with just the family. And that special event was …

… it was …

A CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN
I kid you not. A fountain of chocolate! Cascading downward, dripping lovely dark delicious gooey chocolate! Perfect for fresh-cut pineapple and strawberries.

Oh the deliciousness!

Oh the decadence!
Oh my god the horrible, infernal mess!!

Did I mention that I have a 14-month-old little baby? A sweet darling clean baby? That one. In the name of all that is holy, DO NOT unleash a delicious gooey chocolate fountain when there is a baby in the house!

It’s bad enough with an 8-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. They got sticky and gooey enough as it was. (And as a bonus, Cherry Girl ate herself into a pineapple and chocolate coma and had to be placed gingerly in bed lest she burst. I Am Not Making This Up.)

Four sinkfuls of water, two dishrags, and three baths later, we have a clean kitchen and three clean kids.

Thank heaven we didn’t do the chocolate fountain when I had 10 kids in the house!

We had a chocolate fountain at my company’s conference in September. Oooooooooooooooooh, it was good. They had little coconut macaroons to dip in it too. And strawberries. And a bunch of other stuff that I didn’t try. Really really really good. I highly recommend everyone try a chocolate fountain at some point.

But maybe not with a baby.

I bet they’d taste just as good as the macaroons…

Ya, know… I am trying very hard not to gain anymore than the ten pounds I’ve put on since I quit smoking. Y’all are NOT helping!

Chocolate fountains indeed.

And as if that wasn’t enough, my cow-orkers are having a birthday cake for an intern this afternoon. :frowning:

Happy Tuesday everybody!!

Well, Christmas shopping has started in earnest. It’s also started in my little home town. People keep wandering in here at the most inopportune times.

It’s also rainy and kinda dreary here. Weatherman says maybe snow in the West hills (that’s where the rich folks live). Us po’ folk that live down in the flats have it a little easier longer into the winter until we hafta watch out for being slid upon by four-wheel-drive Toyotas. 'Course the Volvos and Subarus we have to watch out for all the time.

In other news, Wifey has hinted that she might have me make a cheesecake or two for the Christmas dinner. I make a killer cheesecake.

Our son-in-law’s Mom makes a ‘cheesecake’ with tofu  'cause it’s healthy you know. She’s a lovely lady but I think she spent too much time at University and had her brain softened by over exposure to academic types…

You must be on my wavelength today - I woke up with a puke story! Actually, I was awakened by a puke noise about 2:45. The cat was horking something up in our bedroom. Since I didn’t fancy the idea of stepping in that something, I got up and cleaned it. Meanwhile, the cat moved to the living room and continued horking. I decided it merited investigation.

The grand total was 13 puke messes. And there I was at 3 in the dark morning cleaning it all up. I’ve been up ever since.

Stoopit cat.

Bob you got back in time to catch the great weather. It’s supposed to start raining and thundering real soon, so enjoy it whilst you can.

We ended making turkey stew/soup last night with the rest of the bird. So now instead of a big turkey carcass in the fridge, we have several plastic containers of turkey stew/soup. Oh well, life’s full of these little trade offs I guess.

Well, I’m worried. The aforementioned puking cat is nowhere to be seen. I suspect he’s hiding under the washer and dryer platform. He absolutely won’t come when called, so either he’ll get better and come looking for food, or the laundry room will start to stink real bad…

Sorry - that was disgusting. Stoopit cat.

Poor kitty!

Go find him. We’ll wait here…

Aw, geez - we just found him under our bed - he’s dead.

Oh! I’m so sorry…how very sad. Poor kitty and poor you and FCD.

Oh, my. Poor kitty…I’m so sorry to hear it.

Judging by his posture, the poor thing was in agony. ** FCD** just buried him in the back yard. We’re both in tears…

Not to abruptly shift gears from the poor kitty, but I wanted to post the next segment:

Thanksgiving Day, with turkey muffins

Day 2

I woke up at 9 AM on Thursday, which doesn’t sound too early until you remember I had gone to bed at 2:30 AM after staying up for 24 hours the day before. I was pretty tired, but I figured I could always sleep back in Albany.

First I had some delicious *pronti *(Indian flatbread) with potatoes and spices, yum! Then we spent the next six hours opening every suitcase and every closet in the house to get me some nice Indian clothes. I ended up getting three lenghas, which are floor-length skirt & blouse combinations, and a whole bunch of salwar kameez (google it).

Then I learned stuff. I learned how to make cheese properly. How to mike rice-pulao on the stovetop. (YES – I can finally make rice on the stovetop!) I learned how to make Indian-style butter. I learned how to make ras gulla, and ras malai. I also started to learn how to use a sewing machine, as I am going to be getting one for my birthday.

If I had been raised in India I would have learned all this by age 13. But better late than never.

Throughout all of this I would periodically stop to call United and ask them where my luggage was. They found it in Washington, DC, and shipped it to Denver, but I couldn’t get a straight answer on when. First they said it was on a 1:30 flight, then on a 3:30 flight, then they told me it was in Colorado Springs but no one was answering the phone in Colorado Springs. Uh…right. Well, I continued calling every couple of hours until around 8, when I gave it up, figuring it was the holiday and I wasn’t about to get any further.

This took a good long time, as you can imagine. Finally in the late evening Anil came home – he had to work until 7 PM.

We immediately went back out, because I needed solution and a case for my contacts. I had stupidly put it into my suitcase. Anil also wanted me to make some sort of alcoholic drink – when I asked him what he’d been drinking, it was generally along the lines of whiskey and coke. Yuck. So, I bought some creme de menthe, and some creme de cacao, and some cream, and made up some delicious grasshoppers which they loved. We made turkey muffins, which sounds weird but actually was quite good - some turkey, mixed with stuffing, baked into sort of muffin shapes in a muffin pan. I expected to only eat vegetarian, I was pleased that we had a little turkey. Dinner was delicious, and after dinner we watched a movie for a bit and then danced.

Dancing is a part of my blood, as it is of this part of my family. It’s what we do when we get together. I danced since I was 12, and still dance regularly for exercise.

I was surprised and pleased to find that my new brother Anil was actually a very good dancer – I wish he’d been around back when I was performing! We really had a good time, and ended up staying up until 1:30 AM again. I felt really bad for Anil, since he had to go to work the next day, but we only had four days to get to know one another!

Oh, my God. FairyChatMom, I’m so sorry. hugs

And once again, hugs and sympathies. :frowning:

I didn’t mean to be such a downer here - it was just a shock and this felt like a safe place.

The house feels so empty…
