Good morning all, and welcome to everyone. That’s right, everyone. No one’s left out, ya hear? Good.
I also am returning to the grind after a long weekend. Now, today’s Tuesday, but here at RPI it’s Monday. They do this in order to balance out the fact that we’ve already missed a day of Monday classes, so when this long weekend rolls around, we skipped Tuesday classes but not Monday classes by having Monday classes on Tuesday. Got all that? Good, there’s going to be a quiz later.
Anyway, fortunately my first class today is canceled, giving me time to do laundry. Which I hate doing. A lot.
Aww, Spats, it’s just laundry. What did it ever do to you? I actually enjoy doing laundry. It was the schlepping it somewhere else to do it that I hated. Have I mentioned how much I adore my washer and dryer??
Good morning, everybody, but especially good morning to Snakes, Rosie, Col. Mustard, and anybody else who’s feeling ignored. Don’t worry, it’s just your week. Next week, new people will be ignored. It’s part of being cool, dontcha know … every now and then, you just randomly “forget” one of your friends. Or maybe that was just what the cool kids in my high school did.
Last night when I got home from work, I sat down on the couch and opened a book. The next thing I knew, it was 10:30, I was almost done with the book, and the whole night was gone. I think it was worth it, though.
Then this morning I had some sort of dream that left me feeling like something was horribly wrong when I woke up, but I still don’t know what it is.
Day old Italian bread works best, of course you can always use fresh Italian Bread. Bring a stick of butter to room temperature and pulverize 2-3 cloves of fresh garlic (I actually use garlic in oil in a jar for this); mix the garlic into the butter; spread on bread; sprinkle on some garlic salt; bake or broil depending on preference.
Add me to the list of ketchup on eggs lovers. It’s good, I tells ya.
I would like to add tuna casserole to my rotation of meals but Mr. Anachi turns up his nose at it. I used to make a nummy version using gourmet quality Italian tuna. Now I have to satisfy my TNC cravings by eating the Smart One’s frozen version which isn’t half bad as long as you aren’t looking very hard for the tuna.
Tonoc will be grilled turkey Italian sausage with sauted bell peppers and onions on crusty Italian bread. I’ll let you know how the sausage is tomorrow.
Snakes, don’t goooooooooooo!!! How’s that?
lissla, you should save those quotes and volunteer them for an MMP. I’m just sayin’ if you’ve got more, don’t give em up for free.
When I have bad dreams, it pretty much ruins my whole day. Just puts a damper on things.
Did I already tell that I figured I’ve got ten vacation days left before my anniversary date for work at the end of March? That means I’ve got to take at least five of them or lose them. The other five I can roll over to next year. So I’m gonna take five Fridays. I think. As long as the boss is cool with it.
HA! You’re obviously not familiar with my posting history here on the Boards. Actually, if you look up weirdo in the dictionary, there’s a link to my thread about having Botox injected into my testicles.
I made spanakopeta (spinach pie) this weekend. It came out OK: I put too thick a layer of Philo on top, and didn’t separate the sheets. Still, though, spinach pie is so good it’s almost impossible to render it inedible. It’s my third time making it - last time I burned it (but it was still tasty - see?). Ironically, the first time I made it was my most successful attempt. It seems like I make out best with the small pies, but it takes forever to make a bunch of small pies, and with the kids screaming on sunday afternoon, it’s pretty much slap it together as fast as you can and get it in the damn oven. So. I’ve got two small pies in the fridge, and the fixins to make a Rueben for lunch - Tuesday is my long day - I’ve got two classes this afternoon/evening so I won’t get home till after 9:30 tonight. It sucks, and it makes me miss my family, but you do what you gotta do.
This is so strange! I made sauce, er… gravy, on Sunday. Before the MMP was even written! And then I ate some of it last night - can’t eat it on the day it’s made! - before I read the MMP! I musta been thinking of y’all without realizing it.
The sauce/gravy did turn out very tasty. I always use sausage to start instead of ground meat. Then onions/garlic. And whatever kind of canned tomatoes I have on hand. Some diced some sliced some sauce and one can of paste this time. Then I just dump in spices until it tastes right. Oh and some red wine too. Just a little 'cause I don’t like wine. But just a little is necessary to give it the right… something. And to get the little sausage bits up off the bottom of the pan. Yup it was good.
Otherwise my long weekend was pretty dull. Or relaxing. Whichever. I watched the first 2 dvds of the first season of 24. Man, that’s intense. Way more anxiety than I needed on my “relaxing” weekend. Oh well. No I just have to rent the rest so I can find out what happens.
I also made the filling for “healthy tacos” for lunch this week. I use ground chicken, cook that up with onions, green pepper, and garlic. Add some taco spice. Stir in cooked brown rice and some corn. Then it gets put in whole wheat tortillas and put some cheese on top. Microwave it at work and top with salsa. Pretty tasty and pretty healthy.
With all these newbies, it seems like we lost some of our old regulars. What ever happened to **Ashes **and Wintermute? And what’s-her-name from Wyoming? (Sorry! I’m horrible with names! And even worse if I don’t have a face to put with the name.)
Well, if you must know, laundry … killed my mother. :dubious:
But seriously, it’s the schlepping. taxi ought to be able to attest to the fact that the Quad dorm in which I live is huge, and has only one laundry room. Getting there requires me to descend two flights of stairs, across 100 yards of sometimes muddy or wet or snowy ground, either down a potentially muddy or wet or snowy slope or down another flight of stairs, and then under the arch to the door. And then there are more stairs inside. All while lugging a 4 foot tall cylinder (radius 1 ft) crammed full of clothes. Fortunately it’s on wheels, but still.
I am going to make a list of all the MMPers and keep it by my computer. Maybe then I’d remember everyone. It’s not that I don’t love all of you to bits, it’s just that I have a terrible memory, especially for long lists of names.
Tupug, I almost never am up early enough to start the MMP. Average wakeup time in the Lissar house is 10.
Dinner last night was tasty, and we went to bed fairly early. Today I get to go back to work. The good thing is that Attacks Husband has started working at my store again. It’s good because I’ll get to play work with him again. The bad part is that he’ll be working 9 to 5:30 fulltime doing metalwork come March, plus going to night school. He’ll probably be really really tired.
Blech, I hate doing laundry. It seems I always have laundry to do. At least I don’t have to schlep it over God and country to get it done, but I still hate doing it. I did a ton of it yesterday. The washing and drying part isn’t so bad; it’s the folding and putting away that I hate. Geeze, I seemed I seemed to use the word hate a lot in the last few sentences.
The weather is back to Pacific Northwest normal, thank goodness. That’s gray and drizzly for you folks that don’t know. Temps are high thirties/low forties right now.
Well, off to go play investigating officer. I contacted one of the folks I need to speak to regarding the Report of Survey and now I need to go see her in person. She wasn’t overly happy to hear from me. Sigh…this is going to fun, I can just tell.
scout you got any German in you? If you do you could make goetta, which has oats in it so your Scottish part would be happy with that. Or just make oatmeal cookies and say they are Scottish oatmeal cookies. Who are we to argue with that?
Ima go eat lunch shortly. I brought the last of Sunday’s chicken 'n dumplings to eat. I’m looking forward to it. Tonight we’re going to the <snerk> Quickie <snerk> to eat and then have spend the night night at my house. I like spend the night nights. I especially like it cause it’s the only spend the night night this week. ACBG is taking off Thursday and Friday to go see his family in west Alabammy, so I’ll be a bachelor this weekend. Maybe I’ll iron all those shirts I keep pretending are not hanging in the laundry room waiting to be ironed. That’d be a good keep me busy for a couple hours chore. I could also clean out my closet. <snerk> Yeah, I could. <snerk>
If anyone is interested in my Versitile Veggie Melange:
Take your favorite frozen veggie mix and prepare according to package.
Drain thoroughly.
Put back in pot and add 1 jar of your favorite tomato sauce (chunky is best).
Simmer until sauce is hot, stirring occasionally.
optional: add some hot sauce and/or chopped garlic for a kick
It’s good over pasta or rice, with chicken or beef, or even just by itself. It’s quick, yummy, low cal, low carb, and good for you to boot.
I’m with you on this one, scout (I seem to say that a lot.) I’m not Italian, but I grew up working in Italian restaurants in Pittsburgh. It was always ‘sauce’. ‘Gravy’ is the brown stuff that went on the open-faced sandwiches (roast beef devonshires).
I’ll have more as I continue reading. I’m way behind this week on my MMP.
