Mobile upgrade: Should I consider jumping from Android to iOS? Help me decide.

I just noticed this from watching a couple of reviews on YouTube.

I also noticed the iPhone screen is considerably smaller than that of my current Samsung, which is a definite minus.

Decisions, decisions.

What carrier do you have?

iOS allows you to rearrange all icons. Also, the upcoming iOS 8 will indeed allow custom keyboards and other extensions.

Deletion of Post #40 has been requested.

Credo Mobile, a Sprint reseller–so, Sprint basically.

Rearranging icons would be good, or even better would be the ability to sort them by frequency of use. AFAIK stock Android doesn’t provide this, but I’ve had it in the past with a certain custom ROM.

As mentioned upthread, an iPhone 6 announcement is expected on September 9th. It’ll include at least one and possibly 2 larger sized phones. It’s likely the 5s will still be available after then, possibly at a lower price.

Unless you have an urgent need for a phone, you’d be better off waiting till the 9th. Even if the announcement doesn’t change your mind, it might save you some money.

Credo offers the iPhone 5s but it won’t have the iPhone 6? That’s weird.

Don’t forget you could always jailbreak an iPhone to get a lot more customization and functionality. I’m pretty sure there is a jailbreak install that will let you view apps by frequency of use, but I don’t know for sure.

One nice feature of iOS is the ability to create folders for the apps. I have my games in one folder, airline apps in another, and so on. I don’t believe that there is a function that tracks usage but I have a folder labeled “Crap” for things I don’t use but I still want to keep ( Facebook, Voice memos, etc. ).

As to battery life, I go three to four days before I need to recharge. I have a iPhone 4s that is almost 4 years old and I have not had to replace the battery.

I also still have the iPhone 1 I got in 2007 and it still works and has the original battery.

I’m not saying they never will, but I don’t know exactly when that’ll be. I’m assuming it won’t be on release day, but I could be wrong. And, anyway, for reasons of cost and also wanting to let others live through the tribulations that go with new product and OS version releases, I tend to shy away from release-day purchases.

Even Apple has been known to release the occasional bug.

Android has that too, although with recent version releases there’s this bug of disappearing homescreen icons. That’s why I thought it would be nice to be able to sort the app drawer by frequency of use, they way one might do with a utility drawer IRL.

I realize this doesn’t say much for Android, lately.
