Mock...(yeah)...Ing...(yeah)...Bird...(yeah)...

Well, our school’s production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” just went up last night, and what can a say but…

BOOYAH!

It was fucking amazing. Everything…literally everything, went well. Every one of the actors, even the townspeople, was in character the entire time, and absolutely blew the audience away. A number of people, including my history teacher, were speechless at the end, and a whole mess of people cried.

Not that I’m bragging or anything. I’m just immensely glad that it opened well. We’ve got two more shows that I hope will go just as well.

I played Heck Tate, the sherriff of the town, and even got some acting advice on the good ol’ SDMB. LifeOnWry told me in this thread to:

I did just that, and the end result was uncanny. In the scene setup, Atticus and I are standing alone on center stage, with the lights dimmed. I give my speech, turn to walk away, and pick up the hat that Bob Ewell drops when he is stabbed. Then, I looked up and gave the line, turned, and walked off. When I got backstage I was quite literally shaking all over, I was so tense from the scene, and the director gave me a big hug. It was great.

Our Atticus Finch was amazingly good, and even our Tom Robinson, who has been having some problems at home all through rehearsals, put forth a HUGE amount of work and did wonderfully.

I’m just hoping that these next two nights go just as well. That said, I’m going to go get ready for the show. Hooray!

Congratulations! I was huge on productions when I attended school and I know how great it feels when something goes well. We did a play about a huge fire in the state of Minnesota in 1918 that leveled towns from Hinckley to Cloquet (“After the Fire”). The actors and actresses did an incredible job bringing that piece of history to life, and the audience response was amazing. Of all the things I’ve ever been involved in, I think I’m most proud of that one play.
