Mod note in the joke thread

Something in this thread raised my eyebrows. Not a lot, mind you, just a tad.

This joke is posted:

Which generates this mod note:

My eyebrows then asked this question: It is forbidden to speak of raping a woman, but speaking of stabbing a woman is just fine?

There is so much tip-toeing around here lately sometimes I feel as if I’m at the ballet.

Ya’ know, I’ve heard this joke a hundred times, a hundred different ways and the above has got to be the most vile version of it I’ve heard.

If moderation action is taken with that, it needs a disclaimer for graphic content.

You may not have heard of the trope “Rape Is A Special Kind of Evil”.

This is so well-known it’s rare to have to mention it to someone.

Tip-toeing? Do you mean that you’re having a hard time figuring out which rape jokes are acceptable?

Indeed, the usual version I’ve heard is “**wrestle **a grizzly bear and make love to an [Eskimo or other ethnicity] woman”. This is the first version I’ve seen using stab/rape instead.

Nope. Figuring out which stab-a-woman jokes are.

Are “stab-a-woman” jokes something that that happens here, or is this just a problem in theory only?

Comedy these days is very raw. Jokes containing cursing, sex, and various perversions of sex abound. However, though I’ve seen numerous HBO presentations featuring stand-up comedians, I’ve heard nary a “rape joke” because rape is no joke under any circumstances. I’m wondering how in the world you can’t see this simple fact.

So they are ok then? Seems to me they should not be, regardless of prevalence.

2 brief points:

I have seen/heard plenty of rape jokes from stand-up comics and elsewhere.

This does not mean I think they are ok. That part, you made up.

I said that “I” have never heard any. I didn’t say for a certainty that they don’t exist. I don’t care for the accusation that I intentionally made something up.

I’ll admit that I am. One of my favorite Robot Chicken routines of all time is the “Bear-alis” one. And that is just from TV; I won’t go into stand-up routines. And this was a post in a thread about jokes. Go hard-line and almost every “bad joke thread” we’ve ever had would have to head off for the cornfield.

The flaw in the OP is the assertion that somehow “stab-a-woman” jokes are fine. Nobody said that they were, and the assumption that, just because the mod note focused on the rape element, the stabbing part was just fine did not remotely follow and was unwarranted.

But since we’ve wandered into academic territory and the subject of bears and rape, how do we feel about the joke with the punchline “You’re not really here for the hunting, are you”?

Come on now. When you said you never hear a rape joke because they are never ok under any circumstances, the implication is that they (rape jokes) are not out there.

Otherwise you would not have added the “because…”.

What is not o.k. is ignoring my question then claiming I said something I didn’t even imply. Are there “stab-a-woman” jokes here on this board you are having problems with, or not?

Maybe you shouldn’t infer things that aren’t actually said, and respond to what people are actually saying?

That is amusing. I was going to say the same thing.

Anyway, like I implied (), I’m not exactly losing sleep over this, just thought it odd that the stabbing a woman line did not warrant mention.

I have nothing more to add to the topic, thanks for all the responses.

Ricky Gervais recently rebutted the trope (quite effectively IMO) that rape jokes are never funny, with a citation from his own show, the seminal masterpiece The Office: https://youtu.be/I5bRUi1xdD4

I thought the problem was rape jokes on this board vs. “stab-a-woman” jokes on this board? I’m pretty sure the mods here have no control over mentions of rape in other media that you happen to find amusing.
