A thread got closed because someone made a joke in bad taste? Really?
THAT’S ridiculous.

THAT’S ridiculous.
Nope, no thread was closed. It just got a mod note: “Let’s stay away from rape jokes, please.”
Yeah. I don’t get it. I did not see the humor in so many of the misogynistic and racist “jokes.”
It’s closed now. Somebody saw the line the mods drew, and said “hold my beer”.
The thread was closed for a later joke in which the punchline was telling a feminist to “suck my dick.”
Yeah, I have strongly criticized politically correct absurdity like chastising someone for saying Jeopardy phenom James Holzhauer “was nice to look at”. But that anti-feminist joke was beyond the pale.
Well, the thread WAS called, “What’s the funniest joke you’ve ever heard?”, not “What’s the most offensive joke”. Good call by the moderator.
Whoops, didn’t see that part.
You’re right, of course.
Heck, Family Guy probably averages one rape joke per episode.
Again.
Does anyone else hear a variation on The Beat’s “Mirror in the Bathroom” from 1980?

No? Just me?
Huh
That joke is actually an excellent example of the problem with posting jokes on a message board. If the person who told that joke were Andrew Dice Clay, in the late 80s, in the middle of his act, the audience (which included, as someone once said, “Men who hate women, and their dates”) would explode in laughter. Admit it, many of us here, if we had been in the audience, would have laughed at that moment as well.
But this isn’t a standup act, it isn’t the 1980s, and we aren’t the kind of group who enjoys Andrew Dice Clay’s choice of material.
Learn to read the room, everyone!
And I don’t watch Family Guy. The humor in it is basically “Let’s see what shit sticks to the wall.” If you’re a fan of it, fine. I like crude humor. I absolutely love South Park, which is better written than Family Guy.
Well, I do now…
FWIW, I hated Clay’s ‘80s schtick then (although he has become a good character actor in recent years). Eddie Murphy’s standup also made me wince, although I enjoyed him on SNL and some of his movies.
It would seem my level of “wokeness” has been pretty consistent for over thirty years, and was ahead of the cultural curve for a good chunk of that, but is still about perfect for say 2009.
Hey, that’s great!
So we need more rules that are just made up on the spot? Where did this “no rape jokes” rule come from? I see no sticky about it.
Are you kidding me?
Apparently you missed this part of the rules:
Considering that you have participated in many of the misogyny complaint threads right here in ATMB, either you are being intentionally obtuse, or you are demonstrating a phenomenal lack of awareness regarding your current surroundings.
You know damn well that we are trying to make this place less offensive to our female members. You may not agree with that sentiment, but I strongly advise you to at least abide by its principles. Attempting to circumvent this with rules lawyering would not be a wise move going forward.
