There is no sleight of hand involved. The cite alleged that “politicians of all stripes have been quoting Mao for years. Such as: ‘In the words of Chairman Mao, it’s always darkest before it’s totally black.’ (That was John McCain)”.

This is a direct lie - John McCain was not quoting Mao.

You simply quoted a poster and asserted that “this” was a lie. Perhaps you intended to be clearer, but your actual post is an accusation of lying directed at another poster.
