Moderation gone mad: Miller

Not that Tibby minds but this warning in response to this post is madness.

My saying that if a vampire approached me and I was eating a T-Bone I’d drive the steak through its heart and kill it would earn me a warning for violent imagery? (Rather than one for being a piss poor joke.)

No, Hypothetical person B did not mean B for Bo. It was a completely non-existent hypothetical person wearing a hat in a movie theater and the response was clearly a joke.

I understand the op imagines that he is being bullied and unfairly persecuted by mere virtue of being Pitted but that is no reason for the moderation to go over the top as well.

Not that one insane warning, or two even, is of any import to any poster that does not routinely behave as a jerk, but really, this one is nuts.

I agree, this is pretty obviously a case of Miller mistaking Tibby’s intent.

That would be inciting violence against vampires. It would be better to encourage people to have garlic fries with their steaks when dining in movie theaters behind big-hatted vampires, and thereby avoid the potentially dangerous encounter to begin with.

I’m embarrassed to admit reading ANY of that thread, but I distinctly remember Tibby stating pretty clearly that he would mind getting a warning. Something about leaving the board if he were to get one…

Not how I read the response.

But if Tibby does care (and why (s)he would I cannot imagine) even more so.

Hmmm. You do have odd ways of reading things.

Can’t say I remember reading that or know where in the thread it is. But this was his/her response to the warning. Which I read as understanding that a warning don’t mean shit to someone who does not make a habit of collecting them.

It does ruin your perfect record though … there goes Harvard!

Still the warning is completely out of bounds.

The thing that caught my attention about that warning is the phrasing Tibby used. He said something about "lopping off Bo’s head, " caught a note directly addressed to him, then used the exact same phrase when referring to the hypothetical person and what he would do - "lop off " their head and use their hat as a popcorn bowl. I saw it after he caught the warning, But i wondered if he was trying to be entirely too cute and got busted.

No one is actually wishing **Bo **physical harm. Please.

There is far more violent imagery (Imagery? That’s really in the board rules?) in the Stupid Gun thread, which gets no moderator attention at all. So, it’s puzzling.

but if he did get harmed, we’d have to throw the body in the quarry - amiright?

Moderation Gone Mad is the obvious sequel series to Girls Gone Wild. Or Bum Fights, I’m not sure which.

And it ties in to Girls Gone Gone Girl and Bum Fight Club.

I went back and read most of the thread; at least up through the posts in question. I’m just not seeing it as worthy an actual warning. Maybe, at most, a Mod Note “naughty naughty” and an explanation of why but for this one I’m at a loss of understanding.

I don’t really like the tone of this thread and that’s kept me from responding. I don’t see any madness in the moderation. That said, I’m not in agreement with it. Let’s look at the facts. A typical pit thread starts. The pittee comes into the thread and says “neener, neener, can’t stop me.” People get a little upset with the pittee’s attitude as much as what he does. Some people think a “getting physical” answer, although in jest, is appropriate. Miller puts his foot down and clearly tells everyone that this isn’t going to happen on his watch. Not everyone hears the admonition, actually admonitions, and a few still think dismemberment and sacrifice are appropriate responses. Miller is not amused.

Along comes Dseid who posts a hypothetical situation with 2 actors. Mr. A and Mr. B. Neither are in any way representative of any board member. Mr. A is a victim of Mr. B’s asshatery, literally. Mr. B refuses to remove his hat in a theater blocking patron Mr. A and others from seeing the movie.

Tibby responds to that post with…

*That’s easy. If I was Person A, I’d lop off Person B’s head and then use her large hat as a popcorn container.

Am I the bully in that scenario?..meh, bully’s gotta do what bully’s gotta do.*

The reference in that post was to the theater clown, not anyone on the board whose name might have a B in it.

Tibby goes a little further with this.

And, of course, now that I’m a Bo-ist, I’d take person B’s head to the quarry after the movie and throw it in.

Again, referring to Mr. B’s severed head and, making a play on the situation, taking the severed head to Bo’s quarry and tossing it in. Bo’s quarry, not Bo’s head.

In my opinion, there was no threat against a member of this board in either of those posts. But did **Tibby **go to an area that Miller had already put his foot down and said to avoid?

But calling that moderator madness taints this thread in such way that I really didn’t want to participate in it.

MONDAY MONDAY MONDAY!

Joke-crushing Monster Mod MADNESS!!!

Well good thing you didn’t then.

Sorry, DSeid, this makes no sense. Your post was rather obviously intended to draw a parallel between person B, who is willfully doing something annoying and refuses to stop, and Bo. If your post had absolutely nothing to do with the subject under discussion, it would have been pointless.

Yes, Tibby’s post was meant as a joke. We don’t think the poster is actually intending to cut anyone’s head off. However, Miller had already cautioned people in the thread against violent imagery.

From the registration agreement:

While clearly not a real threat, Tibby’s post can be read as indicating that Snowboarder Bo is deserving of harm.

In any case, your characterization of this as “moderation gone mad” or “nuts” is needless hyperbole and not the sort of thing that is helpful in getting a resolution to an issue in ATMB. Complaints are allowed, but let’s keep the discussion civil in this forum.

Mad? Mad? I’ll show you mad! I’LL SHOW YOU ALL!

We do try to get him to stay in the Pit as much as possible, though.
