Moderator Notes and Warnings

I might be willing to get behind this.

Is there a hall of fame for picayune ATMB threads?

I guess if you’re in high school and for the past 10 years people have been flogging the idea that you DO NOT want something to go on your Permanent Record the distinction between spheres is difficult to see.

Semantics is also a tough thing to master. We end up with some posters who never quite mature out of it, but in general if you can grasp the distinctions and see that the system is functioning, it’s okay to give up some vagueness and accept that your possible interpretation of terms defines a possible, but not actual reality.

Lastly, try and see through inconsistencies as something to complain about for the sake of complaining. There have been very few borderline bannings/suspensions here, and none were for not understanding what was expected (not conorming is a different case). Don’t get tangled up in the petty insistence that all mod action must be uniform.

Tsk tsk, play nice.

What? Is the OP pre-pubescent? If so, my apologies. Masturbation is not fer kids.

Better yet, Ambivalid, save that kind of comment for the Pit.

Sorry. :frowning:

This is one of the reasons the SDMB only gets 38% of my quality content, I simply don’t understand this term “warning”.

If I felt more comfortable with the system, you could be receiving the other 62% of my quality content, as it is I route it to youtube comments.

I too see it as confusing but I would also like to hazard a guess that the number of people who got suspended or banned for misunderstanding the terms warnings and notes resembles a big fat goose egg. I would support a change in terminology and I would also support Little Nemo being king of America in general.

That’s a pretty silly attitude. Are you claiming that any issue which isn’t unbearable, isn’t worth mentioning? I think there should be room for people to suggest changes for improvements.

It hasn’t been merely “mentioned,” it was discussed at considerable length in the previous thread. Anonymous User has made no new arguments, merely regurgitated the previous ones. Now he’s continuing to rehash those points again and again. This is just a waste of everyone’s time, including his own.

Lots of threads discuss issues that have already been discussed in past threads.

As an aside, while I’m not emotionally crippled by the “mod note” thing, I think the older version of it was clearer:

< Mod Hat On >
So-and-so, dial it back a few notches–you’re approaching pit-type territory
< / Mod Hat Off >

I simply think it sounds better and is somewhat clearer. Mod-note does sound more…“warning-like”.

That said…I don’t really care all that much, so…no big deal either way.

So that’s why youtube comments are so fascinating and insightful…

Mods? We must make this change!

Bieber!!!

At least you didn’t get a warning

This isn’t beating a dead horse, it’s flogging a dead hamster.

We do still use tags like [mod hat] sometimes. We don’t really care how the mods make it clear they are modding as long as they make it clear somehow.

Since you aren’t making headway on this issue, I think it’s time to up the ante. I suggest you write to your local department of transportation and point out that people drive on parkways and park on driveways. That isn’t logical at all, and it probably confuses people all the time.

Colibri, you’re a moderator. Do you know how you come off when you say, with a straight face, that a moderator shouldn’t even have to listen to suggestions that he might possibly be wrong.

This board has long established that the moderators have absolute power and are completely unanswerable to the membership.

But can you at least allow us to mutter our dissatisfaction under our breath?

This isn’t a matter of right or wrong. I’ve actually agreed that another system would make more sense. But I’ve also explained why we’re not going to change the current system. Only one or two posters (in two years) have agreed with you that the system needs to be changed. What exactly does continuing to argue about it accomplish? I’m at a loss to understand why you continue to be so concerned about such a trivial issue.

That’s perfectly fine with me. But you keep typing it out…
