I can think of several Dopers, but none of them have any chance of becoming Moderators.
Zigging off on a tangent: as someone pointed out, two moderators have recently turned in their hats. Does that mean two more are needed? Clearly they must be promoted from the myriad ranks of junior moderators, but how are they to be chosen?
I’m thinking a Demolition Derby would be cool.
I believe there are a few Modeators-in-Waiting to choose from. I know there’s at least one.

Thank you, Anthracite! Your Moderator hat is indeed fetching, but I’d say Sparteye’s avatar is what I’d pictured the Mods’ as – or is that the Administrators’ sole prerogative?
Naw, people can wear any hat they want to, except for Syracuse Orangemen hats…
A wise policy – I’m sure Mods would just hate having to wear a hat that didn’t fit them – in all senses of the word.
Have youse guys ever considered expanding your wardrobe to another item of apparel (besides Coildfire’s clog) which might come in handy, especially in the wake of unpopular decisions? May I suggest:
Sometimes, I don the moderator’s black lace teddy … after all, my forum is “Diversions and Distractions” …
For some reason, the word “ASSHAT” keeps coming to mind here. 
Manhattan also had spats, but I forget if he took those with him or not.
