Yes, that’s the answer. And you’re right. Who needs it…
It’s rather disgusting for someone who’s gone on record casting accusations of treachery at everybody in the US government whose name sounded Jewish to him to, and who uses token Jews to back up his anti-Israel claims regularly ending them with “And look, a Jew agrees!”… joke about being Jewish.
But that seems to be the point.
You could, of course, ask me if I care what you “think.”
Doubt either one of us does.
Cheers.
So the left think they are the ones picked on by the mods while the right believe that they are the group being discriminated against. I don’t think the staff could have a better indication that they’re getting it just about right.
Bad faith? I specifically quoted what you wrote. On the one hand, you want to make substantial hay from verbal infelicities of other posters, and on the other, you want to make blanket statements like “the north was never touched”, and when called upon your obvious and scandalous distortion, act indignant and accuse other posters of acting in bad faith.
You’re beyond the pale.
Yes, whilst you simultaneously ignored the context where “flattened” appeared. As I said, reduced to rubble, as you parsed “flattened”, makes absolutely no sense in the context in which it appeared. One rule for everybody else, and another for you seems to be the order of the day. How about this: you stop being so autistic in your parsing of English, and everybody else will afford you the same dignity?
Who’s supposed to be on the left here, and who’s supposed to be on the right? Being right wing doesn’t make you an automatic supporter of Israel.
Sure, just as being on the left doesn’t automatically mean you support the Palestinians. But in broad brush terms …
Fortunately it’s not that important. Substitute Big-Endians/Little-Endians, homousians/homoiusians, Vulcans/Klingons, the point in my previous post still holds.
Um …Wikipedia was right. FinnAgain was wrong.
I’m back, and it’s been more than twelve hours. Discussion appears to be continuing, so I will move this thread to The BBQ Pit. From this post on, Pit rules apply.

Changed thread title from ‘Moderators seem biased in their application of the rules’ after move.

Finn making nitpicky semantic arguments all the time is annoying, but what he really needs to be banned for is his practice of breaking up quotes and responding to each line separately, which inevitably sends an argument off on multiple largely irrelevant tangents as his opponent tries to respond to the incoming scattershot. Drives me absolutely bonkers, and has far more to do with why I rarely even open Israel threads anymore than does the rancorous and often tediously predictable debate.
Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. It is not a reliable source.
It does serve as a good place to get started on finding out information on something. It isn’t wise to use it as your only source of information. Most teachers and certainly college professors college professors frown on using it in research. It’s a little like saying, “One of my friends said that…”
Someone once turned in bogus biographical information on an acquaintance of mine that was totally fabricated and detrimental to his character. He had to go to considerable trouble to get it removed from general view and wikipedia has never completely removed it from their files even though the culprit has admitted intentionally posting the false information.
I am a teacher and that’s why I am taking the time to discourage your reliance on wikipedia as a source. Other than that, enjoy what you read there. Much of it is true.
It is now! The moderators suck donkey balls of dead donkeys!
Once the moderators succeeded in turning this into a thread that was not about their one-sided biased moderating, and managed to focus it on one poster’s constant pettifogging arguing about the kinds and varieties of differences between “flattenings” and “touchenings”, they succeeded in drawing attention away from the fact that they protect the insults of posters, and discipline the much milder approaches other posters take to approaching the line of what on any given hour may be against the revolving rules.
Allowing one side of an argument to consistently violate the rules and the spirit of the rules without comment, like when saying that a category of poster consisting on only one poster is an “asshole” and then saying that it is against the rules to call intellectual dishonesty of stuff like “flattening” and “touchening” and or mocking a link’s professional credentials, all of which is intellectual dishonesty and should be called an equivalent of that is bias. All this thread asked for, and all the other threads on the subject have asked for is even handed rulings. Stop protecting the intellectually dishonest by allowing them to fling a categorical insult that is directed against a poster while punishing an attack on intellectually dishonest conduct.
Whether I am at fault, mistaken or an “asshole” in whole or in part is not relevant to whether the rules are broken. The fact is that I am perfectly capable of being an asshole, but no more so than any other poster or moderator.
As for FinnAgain, since we are now in the Pit, I’ve had the turd on “ignore” since I first encountered him. He is the Charles Krauthammer of misinformation and bad faith argument because for him argument is not about educating people, it is about propagating distortions to make palatable to Americans the Warsaw Ghetto lives of Palestinians.
Slavery and confederacy apologists are intellectually dishonest and corrupt the morals of a whole society. Israel apologists that do not argue for better conditions for Palestinians have no claim on morality as what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank is different only in degree from the Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto and South Africa under Apartheid. That the evils that Israel inflicts on the Palestinians is paid for with US tax dollars gives us a right to demand that it cease.
This is the same type of argument used by conspiracy theorists.
Seriously, in the end there can be only one abrasive poster allowed in GD, and you are not him, TSS.
This is the same kind of talk as used by schizophrenic homeless people wandering down the street. Just because you have a Bluetooth and a cell phone doesn’t mean that you make any sense.
That’s because they aren’t in the practice of removing legally obtained information. They keep a record of everything. And the only reason the guy had so much trouble getting his stuff pulled out was that he went about it a very odd way. Had he deleted the information himself, citing Orignal research and no sources, it would have been fine. A few may have argued with him, but any administrator could have been contacted and easily proved it.
It also bugs me that people want to extrapolate this one incident to prove that wikipedia is unreliable. When an error was found in a regular encyclopedia, do people never buy another addition? I mean, they fixed the problem, as after that incident it became policy to pull down any uncited information on said pages as soon as is possible.
A lot of the problems with Wikipedia are people coming from outside not understanding that it is a community, just like everywhere else. There’s a way to accomplish everything, but so many people get upset when it doesn’t work the way they want. And since it’s the people who care about the community that actually stick it out, it’s quite often that they win. But, then again, would you expect a total noob here to win something in GD?
A good teacher requires verification from all tertiary sources, not allowing them to be used as citations. Why do people feel the need to single out Wikipedia? And to think I find the. insufferably annoying, but I’m here defending them. Yeah, them–Wikipedia’s a community, remember?
Even then, in this instance, I am the only one that did any research. I checked Wiki before I started and when FinnAgain insisted on being right I then researched further until the point where I had scans of Supreme Court documents.
Purely because FinnAgain refused to budge or even do the most basic research.
Yet somehow I have ended up being the bad guy. Shows where doing research gets you.
I’m fairly sure the various dueling posters themselves succeeded in derailing this thread into more squabbling, with little or no assist needed from machiavellian moderators.
And Palestinian apologists are pretty much drooling idiots who usually don’t have a clue what they are talking about, love distortions and revisionist history, and are generally frothing at the mouth fanatics on the subject in line with the worst of the 9/11 or Kennedy assassination CT nutters (which, if I recall correctly, you are as well).
But leaving all that aside, I’m sure you are a wonderful human being and a snazzy dresser to boot, so I’m sure there is a silver lining in there somewhere. Thanks for your continued participation…it’s always a pleasure.
