I actually created a thread to explore the issue of whether or not the skeptic is ever right in popular entertainment.
I’m not sure there’s anything to “get”. The idea that he would know somebody significantly better at peek-a-boo is absurdly ridiculous and therefore funny. At least funny to me.
Oh, then I misunderstood what he was good at … thought it had something more generally to do with interacting with or caring for babies.
“I would never go to a Renaissance Faire; I’d be the laughing stock of the Astronomy Club.”
Hi, me again. What is the episode title mean? “A slight at the opera”. I didn’t understand the pun.
A Night at the Opera was a Marx Brothers movie. Manny felt slighted by not getting cast as the Phantom.
Thank you so much.
I expect to start seeing Dylan’s “Moo! I’m a horse” lion tee shirts in stores soon.
This episode got Music of the Night stuck in my head. Now it can get stuck in yours!
Am I the only one who found Luke’s singing terrible?
Seriously, expecting a young man in the throws of puberty to pull off a wide range of notes is, at best, ambitious.
Nitpick: I think you mean throes.
Oops. :smack:
Nope. Even allowing for his age I didn’t think he was any good.
I thought he had a nice enough voice for his age, but I think Cam was more interested in the theatrical aspect of Luke’s singing. He was really selling the emotion of the song I thought.
He was way better than Manny.
Luke is my favorite character in the show. And, he’s also performed by a very funny actor. I like the fact that they are giving him talents that he really doesn’t care about. First the magician, and now singing. But, something he presumably likes, painting, he’s not that good at.
Another excellent episode. Sometimes, this show annoys me and lays on the sterotypes (of any sort) on too quick. This episode was well balanced and very funny. Good stuff.
The Masquerade song had been stuck in my head all week, plus I’m reading Maskerade by Terry Pratchett, so this episode just changed the song on repeat in my brain.
Both these things.
And also, Cam is no expert, even though he thinks he is.
Cats in the Cradle still packs a wallop.
I liked the nod to Amadeus from Manny (“I realized it wasn’t Luke I was mad at… it was God.”)
Wasn’t last week’s a rerun? Unless you mean the one where Jimmy and Sabrina got married, which was quite possibly the best episode of Modern Family this year.*
*for the wooshed: It was an episode of Raising Hope parodying the style of Modern Family. Within the story someone hired the crew of MF to film the wedding
