I realize things are different now with the internet and music blogs posting full albums using rapidshare etc, but that requires an awful lot of active work and you have to know what you’re looking for.
Are there any DJs or radio shows focused on enjoyable music, but that don’t shy away from exposing you to different stuff? Reading about John Peel he seems like the coolest radio DJ ever.
You could try his son (Tom Ravenscroft) or pretty much any of the BBC Radio1 night time output - it’s all on the iPlayer.
I don’t know what country you’re in but YouTube can assist if you’re geographically challenged.

Tom Ravenscroft is definitely a good shout. His shows on BBC 6music are very much following the family tradition. He even sounds a bit like his Dad.
6music is a pretty good place to find this sort of DJ actually. Daytime can be a bit more mainstream, but you get some great eclectic DJs in the evenings or at the weekend.
