Modern Warfare 2 general discussion

I’ll alter my killstreaks when I get home.

I guess I liked the Care Package because of the chance of getting something awesome like AC130. But I never took into account the fact that Care Package kills don’t count towards your killstreaks so I always assumed I wasn’t good enough to get 7 or more kills in a row. I now realize that getting that many kills should be easier with the right killstreaks.

(For a long time I mistook that to mean ALL kills from ANY killstreak don’t count towards your killstreaks)

So when I get home (from work) I’m going to pick different killstreaks.

You want a program called VAC Chaos. That’ll enable the console (and theoretically get you VAC banned). Once the console is enabled, you type “record [demoname]” to start recording and then “stoprecord” when you’re done. Afterwards, you load up your screen capture software and type “play* [demoname]” and capture it from the demo. Edit it and post it online.

    • might be playdemo. I forget.

Thanks. Will read up on it and maybe give it a try.

On another note: (to the thread in general) I know it’s a long shot but how could I go about finding the guy I played against in that youtube cage match I posted a link to earlier? I want to send him the link (don’t know about you, but I’d certainly want to see a game I played a long time ago, but from the opponent’s perspective)

His game name was ‘Matthew’. This could well have changed since then. The record of people played in recent games doesn’t go back very far. And there are nearly thirteen thousand ‘Matthew’ s on steam!

Some commentary for you:

1:35 - Terrible claymore placement! You want to put your back to the doorframe before placing it, so that the explosion is away from the door and the guy can’t just run past the claymore. Also, if you get the explosion to cover the barrel right there, you can triple the size of the blast.
3:30 - Ditto
4:08 - What the hell? Why did that stinger miss? I hate when that happens. Kudos for shooting down a killstreak in FFA though. Most people don’t bother.
4:38 - Another bad claymore placement. This time, 1) the laser lines are clearly visible down the hallway, and 2) someone running down that way can jump over it while it’s going off.
5:10 - AHH! There’s a guy there!! Shoot him!
5:14 - Whew! You spotted him on the second go-round.
5:50 - Nice pair of kills. What the hell were those guys doing? Boosting?
6:25 - KNIFE HIM! KNIFE HIM! KNI…
6:27 - Crap.
8:08 - Again, you want to hide those laser lines. Best claymore practice is to get someone to walk past it and be right in front of it without realizing.
8:43 - See? He spotted the claymore and shot it. Although it worked out well for you, because it alerted you to his location. All part of the plan, right?
9:24 - [unreal tournament announcer guy] DOUBLE KILL! [/utag]
10:10 - Third place. Pretty good!

I know you said upthread you’re proud of your claymore placement, but as a claymore veteran myself, this video makes me raise an eyebrow. Was this recorded before you really got good at it? I watched this series of claymore tutorials a few months ago, and it helped me out immensely.

No chance. The only unique key aspect of a steam account is the steamid. There is no realistic way to figure out his steamid at this point. Generally, if the name is unique enough, you can pull the steamid from a public server log parser, but the name isn’t unique enough in this case and MW2 doesn’t have servers.

It’s an old video. I had a lot of the same stuff to ‘say’ (i.e. think) while watching it myself recently. (Particularly my general use of the claymore). Yes I have got a lot better with the claymore since then

I don’t understand why stingers sometimes miss the harrier. As far as I know it doesn’t have countermeasures.

Having said that I usually have pretty good success with shooting down airsupport. I like to do it in FFA to stop the guy who called it in from getting too many kills ahead of me.

I wondered if those guys were boosting too. Weird place to boost though!

Done a bit of reading and it seems a bit too big of a risk just to record games. I.e. only a matter of time before steam begins to recognise it, and I could get VAC banned.

I play on the 360, and I play a good bit. I don’t have any idea what my K/D is, but I’m sure it’s not good. I really like playing Domination, and since deaths don’t matter there I don’t pay attention to them. I might be 9 and 25, but I’ve almost always cap’d the most flags.

I have lots of classes, and the particular guns rotate depending on which titles or emblems I’m working toward.

AR Build:
TAR-21, m203
AA-12 shotgun
Scavenger
Stopping Power
Commando

SMG Build:
P90 (kinda hate this gun, but I’m working on it)
Thumper
Marathon
Stopping power
Commando

LMG:
MG4 (not my favorite, but it’s the one I’m working on)
spas-12
Slight of hand
Stopping power
Steady aim

Sniper:
Intervention (just until I get the WA2000 unlocked)
pp2000
claymores
Slight of hand
Stopping power
Steady Aim(?)

Shield:
Riot Shield
pp2000
Smoke Grenade
Throwing Knife
Marathon
Lightweight

Hardcore:
FAL or FAMAS (with a HBM once it’s unlocked)
Pistol
Slight of Hand (or bling, once I get to FMJs)
Hardline
Steady Aim

KaBoom:
Some AR with an m203
thumper
Scavenger
Danger Close
Commando

I generally use Predator, Harrier Strike, and AC-130 as my killstreak lineup. Sometimes I’ll switch the Harriers to a Pavelow.

I tend to play in Ground War or HCTDM, mostly. The game has its problems, but I like it. I’m looking forward to Black Ops. I really hope I like it, but I’m wary after World at War. I like the Treyarch level design, but I HATED every gun in WaW. I really hope it’s not the same in BO.

Word.

Go to Barracks >> leaderboards >> kills, and find your own number amongst your friends’.

Guns worth using:
Barrett
TAR
ACR
UMP
M16/FAMAS
FAL
That’s about it. Everything else is either crap or superfluous.

Youre kidding, rig?

The SCAR, the M21 EBR, off the top of my head, and that doesn’t even touch on secondaries. The M4 absolutely rapes on hardcore, the f2000 is fantastic in 3rd person, the AK is fantastic in core, the AUG HBAR is pretty darn awesome in core (especially ground war), etc, etc.

Almost all the guns have a specific thing they’re good at.

I forgot the HBAR. Also, pretty much more than any other assault rifle duo, the ACR=M4. I’ll give you the AK, if you can meter out your blasts, but you could just use the ACR/M4 and just go full auto and not have to worry about any kick at all.

I stand behind everything else. The SCAR eats bullets, the M21 is bad, especially when you could use the Barrett or the WA2000, the F2000 has practically no positive thing going for it.

And no, I didn’t touch on secondary weapons, because in pretty much some configuration, they’re useful.

I was guessing at my killstreaks. I got them wrong. The last killstreak is attack helicopter not chopper gunner.

But I will try the suggested killstreak setup.

The M21 is way better than the 50 cal most of the time.

The M21 has no recoil, the 50call has TONS, in hardcore, they’re both one shot kills, in core the 50 cal is only slightly better, offering a slightly larger kill zone, but if you center of mass or head, you kill them equally dead with one shot with the EBR.

On the other hand, the less recoil allows you to use the EBR more like the FAL+ACOG, taking quick, accurate shots. In both core and hardcore this can be the difference between a 28 killstreak and a 4 kill streak. I think the real difference is in proper usage. Because actual sniping in this game is borderline impossible, run the EBR as a designated marksman. Find high ground, and attract enemy fire while your teammates slaughter them, all the while youre picking off stragglers.

One man army, stopping power/cold blooded, ninja and an EBR with a silencer is deadly. If I had a video capture device, I’d take movie tonight.I can show you though - do you have a 360 or PC copy of the game?

The scar only eats bullets if you spray. In hardcore it’s a 2-3 shot kill, with a silencer, scavenger, ninja and cold blooded, you can pretty much destroy everyone in hardcore if you know what you’re doing. I’ve gotten at least 5 nukes with that and a thumper and claymore.

And the f2000 sucks in every type except 3rd person. It makes me sad, raeally, because I own a civilian legal semiautomatic one in real life and would like to use it in game. Every gun does a few things well, I promise.

Question:

If I put a claymore down with danger close, then change to another class using OMA, do I still get the benefits of danger close for that claymore?

[emphasis mine]

As a dedicated sniper, I have to give this one a “Huh?” The M21 EBR is ok as a gimmicky assault rifle when you put an ACOG on it, but otherwise, it is inferior in almost every way to my favorite weapon, the WA2000.

Fun lesson in sniper rifle selection for core game modes:

All four sniper rifles do the same base damage – 70. The two starter rifles (the Barrett and the Intevention) both have the same damage modifiers – 1.5x for head/neck/chest and 1.1 for stomach. The WA2000 also has 70 base damage and 1.5x for head/neck/chest, but doesn’t get the 1.1x for stomach. How does this difference play out? ONLY when you’re using stopping power, you’ll get one-hit kills in the stomach with the two starters (i.e. dealing 107 damage) but not with the WA2000 (i.e. dealing 98 damage). That’s the only damage difference. When you’re not using stopping power, there is no damage difference in terms of getting one-hit kills (i.e. 105 damage in the head/neck/chest, and <100 everywhere else).

However, the M21 EBR has very different damage multipliers. You get 1.5x for headshots, but 1.1x for neck and chest. No bonus for stomach. Therefore, without stopping power, you need a headshot for the one-hit kill. And even with stopping power, a stomach shot won’t give you the one-hit-kill. They try to make this awful drawback worth it by giving you a 10-shot magazine instead of the WA2000’s 6-shot one. But who cares about the size of a sniper magazine? You’re reloading after every 1-3 shots anyway.

So why is the WA2000 better than the two starters? Well, if you use cold blooded like I do, the one-hit kills are exactly the same. But the WA2000 has the advantage that you can double-tap. The intervention has a forced delay between shots, and the Barrett has a “recommended” delay between shots. So neither one can really double-tap very efficiently.

I missed this post. As I explain above, the underlined portion is incorrect. And if you add a silencer, the base damage on all four sniper rifles goes down to 50. Which means that without stopping power, in core modes, headshots do 75 damage, and thus are not lethal.

I agree with you, however, about the SCAR. Best AR in the game.

I’m sure your information is reliable, but it runs counter to my experience.

However, most of my Sniping is done in Hardcore, not core. The rare times I do break out a sniper rifle in core, it’s typically a stopping power/intervention class (trying to chug along and eventually get those 2500 kills).
As for the reason I like the EBR more than the WA2000 – field of view and recoil. IME the recoil on the EBR is slightly less than the WA, and this allows for faster double taps. Which is especially important for the way I snipe.

I’ll get onto the roof of the white building on High Rise in Hardcore Headquarters, and hardscope down the hallway into the red building, I can take out 3-5 guys at a time as they usually run in a group down that hallway, I can also spray a bit more, which is important for defending myself considering the spawns flip back and forth ridiculously.
On a map like Wasteland where being a sniper often involves closer fight as close SMG range, a faster shooting rifle is important.

Just in case nobody saw my question sandwiched between two bigger posts…

"If I put a claymore down with danger close, then change to another class using OMA, do I still get the benefits of danger close for that claymore? "

I know of people that use the M21 and the ACOG. I hate the ACOG.

I prefer the Barrett. It kicks like a mule, but if you hit center mass and up, they go down. I don’t use Stopping Power on my sniper setups. I use Cold Blooded, so I get a lot more fun that way.

I have a 360, but I sold this stupid game back in January.
