Modern Warfare 2

The stabby approach still has some skill. How you should run a game like that is to be constantly moving, constantly flanking and to never get out in the open if you can help it. Rock the MP5 with a silencer and be working your way up and in the other team’s spawn constantly.

Well I think the reason I’ve got good at knifing is because I was already doing those other things you mention (constantly moving/running, and staying in shadow/cover)

I used silenced weapons for a bit, but I fell victim to a lot of long range attacks that way so I switched to a light machine gun (MG4) with a grip attachment (virtually eliminating kick) so when I am caught in a long-distance battle I can still beat the other guy.

ETA: I’m only at level 40 and I don’t have the MP5 yet.

ETA: The MG4 takes bloody ages to reload, but it has a very large mag so you don’t have to reload after every gunfight.

Silly, silly me. The MP5 is unlocked by default. I guess I just didn’t notice it.

Question to the thread in general: I watched a youitube video that said Stopping Power is all round one of the best perks. But it only adds a tiny little morsel of extra bar to the damage bar, thus I have never tried it.

I’m starting to think those bars are not very accurate at all (The MG4 has about twice the range of the Steyr Aug, but the range bar is almost exactly the same)

So is the stopping power perk effective?

Yes, but Stopping Power isn’t effective if you’re using the WA2000.

Pop one to four shots with the light machine guns. That’s when they’re at their most effective. Otherwise, they’re almost a nuisance because of their lack of portability and long reload times.

It’s hard to do better than the M16/FAMAS or ACR.

Huh? Why not? I use it on my WA2k all the time.

Actually, I noticed last night that I have it on every spec except for my shield spec. It always reduces the burst size that you need to take a person down. I didn’t notice much of a difference until I removed it and people kept right on living after I had shot them the traditional number of times. Dang M16 takes a whole extra burst to kill without the stopping power perk.

The WA2000 does 70 damage or 98 with stopping power. Either way, it takes two shots to kill someone.

I recently got the M16. Three round burst. I tried it out in a private match and the day after I’d left it as the primary by accident and went into a FFA game. It took some getting used to doing tap… tap… tap… instead of hold…

I think I’ll stick with the mg4 for now because of its range, magazine size, and full auto.
I’ve seen a lot of TV that says IRL the M16 is a below average weapon compared to its competitors in the same class. It is old. And I believe it is/was prone to jamming.

No shit. Well, I guess that’ll free up my second perk. Where does one find that info?

What if you’re using an MG4?

And what’s more effective on the same weapon: Increased fire rate, or stopping power?

I’ve used increased fire rate extensively because if I find myself in a sudden gunfight at close range and my aim isn’t perfect: the shots that are aimed right will contain more bullets.

Does MG4 have a Rapid Fire attachment? I would think that on an LMG (thought I don’t usually use them) fewer rounds would be better due to the recoil on those things.

Dunno if this is the answer, but http://www.modernwarfare247.com seems to be a good resource.

Well when I said I used rapid fire. I meant I used it on my primary before my primary became the MG4. With the MG4 I use the grip because it virtually eliminates kick/recoil.

Stopping Power. Putting your bullets into the bulk of the target is paramount. Rapid Fire decreases your accuracy. Keep the accuracy and the Stopping Power.

To me, there are only a handful of perks that are even useful, unless you want a specialized class (like someone to be an explosives jerk, a stabby person, etc.)

For the blue perks, there’s Sleight of Hand, Bling, and Scavenger. I prefer Sleight of Hand, especially with the LMG classes, because it drastically cuts down your reload time.

For red, there’s Stopping Power and Cold Blooded.

For yellow, there’s Ninja, Commando, and maybe SitRep.

It doesn’t need it. It takes someone down in two indiscriminate shots/lower body shots, but it’s highly effective from the waist up. If you need two shots with Stopping Power and the WA2000, use a different weapon.

If it were real life, the .50 cal would shoot through pretty much of all of Favela and drop people at the other side of the map like a wet bag of dicks. Also, the silencer wouldn’t hurt its range. Also, the AA-12 would be the only secondary weapon you’d ever need/want/use.

I’ve known weapons to shoot through the walls. How do you know that a .50 cal isn’t capable of shooting through favela? A big map with a set number of players? Surely it is extremely rare for someone to decide to shoot in a random direction and happen to kill someone on the other side of the map.

Dude, I laughed so hard at “like a wet bag of dicks.” I’m gonna steal that. Jeebus, that’s funny.

Just got ninja pro. This improves my game sweetly! Furthermore a relative noob joined me in a 3rd person cage match, got his arse handed to him, but stayed for subsequent games so I was able to keep presenting his arse to him! And right now is a NIN song that I would so love to have been playing at the time, but alas it wasn’t. It’s playing now.

Which makes me think: Maybe I should be playing music while playing MW2 to improve the experience.
