I was of two minds whether to post this – it’s probably of very little interest to anyone who doesn’t know me – but I decided in the end that I’ll post it anyway and you can ignore it at your leisure with no harm done.
I also realised that I post very seldom (though I do read a lot) and tend towards the drive-by smart alec remark and should try harder to be a sociable Doper, so…
Last night Mrs. Apollyon delivered a baby boy – our first child – after quite a few hours of hard work.
I got home around 11pm and made a small web-page about him, and if you would like to have a look at Alexander’s home page you are more than welcome.
When I was born my father placed a notice in the newspaper. Alex my boy, times have changed. Within a few hours of your birth your picture had gone around NZ and to my friends in the US, UK, Canada and Oz, and now lots of interesting people from all over can have a look if they like. You’ve come into a troubled and turbulent world, but one for which I still have enormous optimism and enthusiasm. I hope you enjoy your stay.
Congratulations on your new son! BTW, I really like the name you picked for your son. Of course, I’m biased because I named my youngest son Alexander too.
I thought kiwis had long beaks and skinny feathers. You people have me so confused. And, were I named Dickson, I don’t think I could have resisted naming my kid Gordon, either.
No, we’re an Apterix, a flightless bird with hairy feathers.
Dorsai author? Oh, yeah. Hmmm… hadn’t really thought that one through… but I do have several of his books.
Alexander is named for my mother’s father Alexander John Linney, even though he was called Jack his entire adult life, and the Gordon is for an old friend of the family… my only honorary relative; Uncle Gordon.
Thank you for the kind comments, all of you.
<sniffle> I’m misting up again… been doing a lot of that the last week.
And bibliophage, I’m sure those things aren’t PC anymore. Perhaps a nice spirulina shake instead.
Good heavens! No need to add a disclaimer about sharing THIS sort of news! What an absolutely joyous event. That’d be true at any time, but frankly it means even more to me now given that last week I wondered a few times if the world was ending. Beautiful babies are being born and we’re surviving.
I hope Apollytyke will grow up in a peaceful, beautiful world full of happpiness, where fear and words like “terrorism” sound like bizarre artifacts of a time before he was born.
Welcome to the world, young Alexander. May your stay here be long, prosperous and happy. You’re already a cute little fella, not to mention famious world-wide, so that’s got to be a good start!
To Mr and Mrs Apollyon, Congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing this special moment of your life with all of us. Your baby is beautiful, and I love the name you chose for him. I look forward to seeing more of the Apollyon family in the future
