I was just wondering if it’s possible to ask for explanations for why certain posts are edited.
One specific example: I stumbled across the sticky “The SDMB is switching to paid subscriptions” and at the bottom it says;
" Last edited by TubaDiva : 12-13-2005 at 10:00 PM."
It just seemed a strange to edit a post over a year after it had been posted, and one by a fellow staffer no less. Now I’m kinda curious as to why it was edited.
Most editings come with a reason by the mod attached, if one isn’t, is it ok to ask in here?
Mods only edit user’s posts to correct coding errors, usually. We won’t even edit to correct speeling misteaks.
The post you’re talking about was originally by Ed Zotti. It contained the information about the special introductory offers that were presented to the current membership at the time of switching to pay.
All Tubadiva did was remove the old offers, so no one signing up today would be confused by the original offers.
Nothing sinister, I can assure you. If we do edit a user’s post you will see an explanation of the edit. 999 times out of 1000 it’s to “fix coding.”
What is the big deal with Post Counts, mine is abnormally high for my time on the board, but I don’t post just to increase it, would people do this for some reason in the past?
It seems like a meaningless stat except maybe to say, you post a lot. Why would it have any other value?
Jim
BTW: my post count is high because I find debates/arguments/discussions fun and I have a very eclectic interest.
Well personally, I was joking, which should be obvious considering this is only my 999th post in over 4 1/2 years here. You, OTOH, obviously consider a large post count as meaninful, since you have over 4,000 in 6 months time.
I for one do not support the belief that people with large post counts are compensating for…inadequacies.
