I remembered recently that my parents used to play a record when I was very young, and I have no idea who sang it, or what the song was called. Nobody I ask has ever heard of it, and some question its very existence. Maybe there is a wise person out there who knows it. Here are the parts I remember:
*Moley Moley in your holey
Why are you so shy?
I wish that you’d come and meet me
Moley won’t you try?
I wish he would but he won’t
I wish he would but he won’t
I know 'cause my daddy says so
I can see a great big spider
Creeping up on me
I think that he’ll [something somethin]
And eat me for his tea
I wish he wouldn’t but he will
I wish he wouldn’t but he will
I know 'cause my daddy says so*
It went on for ages. This just surfaced from the depths of my mind recently. Christ knows how that happened.
My mum was a teacher and used to play guitar and sing this to her class and to me when I was really little. She has her old song sheets somewhere so, if I can find it I’ll post the whole song.
It was my favourite and I’ve never met anyone else who’d ever heard of it - even though yours is a very old post, this has made my day, thanks!
I know its been ages since you posted this but i felt compelled to reply.
The song is by Roy bailey and appears on the album “why does it have to be me”
Other verses include
Swallow swallow sweeping
Swallow flying up so high
I wish that I could fly with you and follow you trough the sky
I wish I could but I can’t
I wish I could but I can’t
I know
Cos my feathers wont grow
I caught a big brown furry caterpillar
Put him in a box one day
He’s going to turn into a butterfly then he’s gonna fly away
I wish he wouldn’t but he will
I wish he wouldn’t buy he will
I know
Cos My teacher said so
Ladybird ladybird fly away home
Your house your house has caught on dire
And your children they are gone
Ladybird Fly away
Ladybird fly away
Awaaaaay
Cos your children are gone
