I spent a week in Japan about 4 years ago… I was quite surprised to find vending machines at a bus stop that sold “used” panties (still fragrant I presume) and pornographic video tapes. The bookstore in the shopping mall had many books with pictures of young (10 or 12 year old) girls in school uniforms… who happened to be urinating or defecating themselves. I have been told this is quite “erotic” and socially acceptable there. Strangely enough, showing penetration (adults in the photos) in any form was always blacked out in magazines. I don’t mean to insult anyone but I am quite thankful to be from America - - where penetration isn’t bad and kiddie porn is not socially acceptable.
As an asian (though not Japanese), i would like to say that that kind of thing is not very common in asia. Or at least in Korea, I would hope. As far as my knowledge goes, incest is not accepted in all asian cultures, and definitely not in korean culture. In fact, we even have an ancient law that says that people from the same clan of the same last name can’t marry.
Man, i think asians are getting a reputation for being depraved because of those damn japanese and their antics.

Well, if it were normal, the Japanese press wouldn’t write about it. So non-native, I think it’s a tad early for generalisations.

If it’s true, it’s certainly quite disturbing. I’m not convinced jus yet, though.

You can find other threads on this topic. The Wai Wai column is kinda like what you would expect if Jerry Springer had a column in the National Enquirer. So, take it with a large grain of salt. Would you want to attribute stories on Jerry Springer towards the American population at large?
This story gets resurrected every six months or so in Japan. I saw it when I lived in Japan a decade ago. Other Japanese dopers can chime in here.

I don’t know…I saw something about this on a snopes thread. I’ll try and find the link later, but it just didn’t seem to mesh. I know cultures are different, but this does seem a bit over the top…

Well, just judging from stories I’ve heard from co-workers who have lived in Japan (I have not… ), I can almost believe that the story has at least some factual basis. However, let me assure you that nothing of the sort happens here in Korea!
I’m a teacher, and no students’ mother has ever offered me any sexual favors… nor have any students!

It’s an article from Japanese weekly magazines. They are the equivalent of American tabloids. I wouldn’t take it seriously. Actually they are still better than sports newspapers, but neither are reliable sources of information.
