MOMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York) admission increase to $20

Guardian article. It was $12 before. Very discouraging to people lesser means like myself. I don’t go to the MOMA that much myself, but it means that the rest of the museums will use this as a precedent to raise their prices.

Even worse, Mayor fuckberg had a gem of a quote about this. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Found it…

He’s right, but he’s such an out of touch cockswizzle about it. He’s the same with every issue.

And fuck the MOMA too.

then they shouldn’t be getting tax dollars -

same source. I went to Natural History a couple of months ago, and the price was similar - but I don’t know if they get tax money. If Mayor Gotbucks or his administration gives MoMA tax money, it isn’t so very private.

$20 is a little pricey.

Nice.

Bloomberg’s not exactly an “artsy” kinda guy. He’s the same one who fucked over the Museum of the City of New York:

“In mid-March, Mayor Michael Bloomberg nixed a deal made by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani to relocate the Museum of the City of New York, currently on upper Fifth Ave., to the newly renovated Tweed Courthouse in Lower Manhattan. The news prompted the resignation of the museum’s director of 17 years, Robert C. Macdonald, who will step down on Aug. 31. He had been working on plans and fundraising for the museum’s move for the last four years. It was widely hoped and, indeed, assumed that the museum would play an important role in the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan.”

A movie for $12, MOMA for $20, gas at $50 a barrel… everything’s going up these days! :frowning:

Not hope.

Or laughter.

Does the MOMA use a “suggested admission” price, i.e. those who cannot afford it can put in the amount they can afford? I haven’t been to the MOMA but the other NYC museums I visited used this method.

$20 is pretty steep. :frowning:

This is yet more proof of how great my Art Museum here in town is. They have poor people hours every Friday when the standard admission is waived and you can get in for free or a donation if you’ve got a buck or two to spare.

We have that at tons of places, and IIRC the MOMA is one of them. Again IIRC Friday 4-6pm

Pfshaw. Come visit DC - land of the free museum.

Twenty fucking dollars? Even as a tourist, I’d have to think twice about paying that much.

Hey, my favorite is Air and Space - but where do you transfer from the A train to the Orange Line?

I LOVE the DC museum system. I haven’t been down in quite a few years, but the Air and Space and Natural History museums are fabulous, I could spend weeks, it seems, just puttering around in them.

Yep, that astronaut ice cream is better then crack.

AFAIK, the American Museum of Natural History still has a “suggested donation” policy, but they don’t make it obvious that you can pay whatever you want.

Sometimes when I go, I’ve paid a dollar or two to get in, without remark by the cashier. (Sometimes I’m there for research or business and it’s been quicker to just pay a nominal amount than to go through the process of getting a free pass.)

Penn Station.
