Moms for Liberty lose big

Look, I’m not going to kink-shame Moms for Libertines. They have one big problem, and it’s their politics, not their bedroom behavior, that’s a problem.

Well, their politics and their sexual assaults. That’s two big problems. I’ll come in again.

I like the rename.

Well, also hiring an outreach pastor who’d been convicted of sexually abusing a teenager. But I mean, who among us hasn’t made a bad hire?

I’ve always said that orgies are for people with no conversational skills.

Their politics, their sexual assaults, and their embrace of white supremacists. Three problems. Damn!

They decided not to use their original name, Moms Insuring Liberty Forever.

Ouch.

More accurately Moms Insulting Liberty Forever.

Moms Yeeting Liberty Forever.

It’s also the hypocrisy, though.

I despise their politics.

But, why oh why, time and time again, do we find out that these public prudes have private predilections that provoke the public’s poor opinion?!

It’d be like if you met some hippies playing guitar in the park, and they brought you back to their place, and they served mayonnaise sandwiches and made you watch the McLaughlin Group.

Not cool, man.

You gotta live your truth.

Pithy powerful paragraph that packs a punch, I tip my pith hat to you.:v:t3:

It’s too bad their politics include others’ bedroom behaviors.

100% too bad. But if they were absolutely pious and never engaged in any hypocrisy, their policies would be every bit as harmful as they are now.

Yes, in part because groups like this want to legislate what I do in my bedroom. We are in agreement.

Oh, not only in your bedroom – inside your very own body!

The Intellectualist connects some of the obvious dots.

It has been reported that Christian Ziegler, the Chairman of the Florida GOP, a party that brandishes religious intolerance like a weapon, conducted a consensual sexual relationship with his wife and another woman. Currently, he is under investigation for sexually assaulting the other woman in the relationship.
Bridget Ziegler, his wife, who is reportedly Casey DeSantis’ best friend, co-founded ‘Moms for Liberty’, a viciously homophobic organization that continues to terrorize members of the LGBTQ community, especially LGBTQ children.
Usually, it’s no one’s business what consenting adults do in private, but the hypocrisy here is so disgusting and the harm done so severe, that they deserve to be permanently known for their hypocrisy. How many children have committed suicide because of the policies they continue to promote? How many members of the trans community have been murdered or assaulted because of the hatred they’ve stirred up? They’re responsible for destroying families, dreams, and livelihoods, and it was for something they didn’t even believe in!

Performative Christianity has become a big part of the GOP brand and it’s more than a little odd. Kevin Drum:

Republicans sure are weird. The whole party is built around performative Christian faith, but look at their top three presidential candidates. Donald Trump is allegedly something or other¹ but obviously couldn’t care less about religion. DeSantis is Catholic but only barely. And Nikki Haley converted to Methodism in her twenties for political convenience. Not a single one of them has a Christian faith deeper than a fingernail.

Interestingly, truly devout politicians like Jimmy Carter get short shrift from public Christians, not even earning an aside about his faith. It’s almost as if the Republican style of Christianity is a substitute for virtue, rather than a supporter of it.

There’s a certain school of Christianity that really leans into the “you can be as much of an asshole as you want and get away with it as long as you believe in Jesus” thing, and that school has pretty much dominated the Republican party for the last 40 years to an extent that it’s hard to think of a Republican politician that doesn’t fall into it. Dubya might be the only one in the last 20 years that even came close to walking the walk, and that’s just sad.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

So if any of you guys go to one of those kinky sex parties, if anyone is dressed up in sheep cosplay…

The hubby of the MFL (Moms For Liberty) founder has refused to resign. Of course. Keep fighting until it fades from the headlines.

It’s not wrong if you get away with it.

That really ought to be the R’s official tagline / campaign slogan.

The sad part is I suspect that if the party were to formally officially adopt exactly that and advertise the heck out of it, a sizeable fraction of their newer followers would shout “Fuck yeah!”. And the traditional ones from the country clubs would say “Well yes, of course. But better done quietly as I do.”

From the article:

In his Saturday email, Ziegler did not address having told detectives that he did have sex with the woman but that it was consensual. He also didn’t address his wife telling detectives that the couple and the woman had group sex once, more than a year ago.

“My family is rock solid. My wife is behind me 150% and we have methods in place to protect our (three) children, just as we have with all previous attacks that we have faced,” Christian Ziegler wrote. The Zieglers did not return calls and text messages Sunday seeking further comment.

If only we all had spouses so rock solid behind us.

And remember folks, just like you can imagine yourself to technically still be a virgin in the eyes of Baby Jesus if you only have sex in holes other than the holy hole, it’s not gay if you have sex with another woman as long as your husband is an active participant in the threesome.
