Monaco: What's yours is mine

Is anyone else playing or thinking of playing this? It’s a top down multi-class thief/heist game with retro graphics. Think Hotline Miami but stealthy and funny instead of psychotwitch. It’s the best 15 bucks you can spend without going to Thailand.

Here’s a 9/10 review from Eurogamer:

PC Gamer says it’s one of the best co-op games of all time so I figure we could do co-op games on. I am TheFrenchCanadianTaunter on Steam for those who want to coordinate.
As an aside, what are the cultural influences of that game?

I just finished Stealth Bastard Deluxe and was looking at what’s new on Steam. This just came up on Steam for Mac. I’m intrigued. I’m not entirely sure what it is though. From the trailer it looks like it could be a stealth game? Action? Pac-man? Tell me more!

Absolutely.

It is every procedural heist capper. Think of it as playing Ocean’s Eleven but both serious and funny with better characters, plot, settings and intrigue.

It’ll go from stealth to action to Benny Hill chase sequence and in every one of those phases it’s quite enjoyable.
This 9/10 review from Eurogamer does it justice:

Cool. Looks pretty good.

Unfortunately my 20% federal furlough starts next week and prudence dictates that I shouldn’t really be spending money on anything nonessential, but if this goes on sale at some point I will definitely try to pick it up and when that eventually occurs, I’ll come back and see if anyone wants to play.

How did you find Stealth Bastard Deluxe?

It’s awesome. I enjoyed it very much. I continue to play it even though I’ve beaten every level multiple times (which you need to do to unlock all of the gadgets).

Can be frustrating and downright enraging at times, but the difficulty arc is very good; they very slowly keep adding new wrinkles to each successive level, but it’s extremely satisfying when you figure out each level. I would compare it to something like Braid in the respect that it is a “platform puzzler,” but with a different play mechanic and a much darker sense of humor.

Monaco is a fantastic co-op game. I’m not sure I would recommend it if you plan to play it mostly solo, but if you can get some co-conspirators together it’s fantastic.

I am quite fond of the Cleaner. I can’t help saying “pow!” every time I knock someone out.

Solo play is quite satisfying on its own. It tends to lead to a slower pace.

Multi play is faster-paced. It can be much better than the (already quite good) solo play if your teammates are willing and able to cooperate. If not, it can be pretty shit. In the life of crime, pick your partners.

I see today that a level editor has been included. This means a near-unending supply of levels from other players. It seems the best ones are downloaded automatically from Steam but more can be sought in the Workshop.

Obligatory cartoon from Penny Arcade

Yes, that is accurate. It’s also why the miner’s my favorite in nearly all maps. He has the level of subtlety I like and am comfortable with.

It’s on sale right now for 7 and a half bucks.
