Moncton Shooter. What rifle?

Just wondering…What class of rifle is in his right hand?

Since the vast majority of all murders in the U.S. are by handgun, I usually view talk of banning types of rifle as reactionary and opportunist. But this kid took out 5 cops… I am curious to know what weapon was used. Does not look like an AR, or AK, Or SKS…to me.

Also, there are reports he was messing around with his Facebook page after the murders. Video game generation?

Moderators, a split topic. Please move to where it most appropriate.

It looks like an M1 Carbine to me.

If so, not exactly a weapon of mass destruction. But the magazine looks a bit too thick to me. Might just be the angle though.

It looks like a M14 to me, though a M1 carbine is certainly possible. It looks like he also has a AR-15 with an adjustable stock behind him, though it may also be a shotgun like the Mossberg 500 Tactical.

A single news report says it is an M14.

Airman and Huffpost seem to agree. And that looks right to me. M14/M1A is no joke…308…

Too large to be a m1 carbine. It’s too long, the stock isn’t the right shape and the magazine is too wide.

The article isn’t on their online service yet, but an article in today’s Toronto Star thestar.ca described his weapons as a Chinese made M14, and a 12ga.
Here in Canada, the Norinco rifles are popular. I think they’re not allowed for import into the US, which has kept prices low.
