Money orders

Where can you cash one?

Uh…your bank. Also, if it’s a U.S. Postal Service money order, you can cash it at the post office. Many check cashing places will cash them (for a fee though).

Okay. Thank you!

Well, shoot, I couldn’t swear to it, and I can’t find any links, but I have the impression that any place that cashes checks will cash money orders. This includes your friendly neighborhood Kroger store (I think). Ask them, save yourself a schlep downtown to the bank or Post Office (ask at the Manager’s Office, that big counter where you buy stamps and rent steam cleaners and stuff, not at the check-out line, because she won’t know).

Sorry, DDG, gotta put in a caveat on this one.

Check with each store - most of the major chain grocery stores around here will not cash a money order, even if you have a check card with that store. Best thing to do is ask at each store - Publix has a sign at the check cashing window to the effect that they will not cash or refund a money order, so double check the amount before you request one and before you leave the counter.

Most of the convenience store (7-11, Circle K) will sell them, but will not cash them.

(You’re still my hero of GQ, though.)
