Moneybags...or, Just how dumb can people get?

That’s what I came up with, too. 7/12 (31 day months per year) x 1/7 (chances that a month starts on a Saturday (assuming random distribution)) = 1/12.

It’s not a random distribution, but over a 28-year period (assuming you don’t have a year like 1900 or 2100 in it) the cycle of calenders is completed, with each type of 31-day month being equally represented.

One of my friends posted this on her Facebook. It said that it’s based on Chinese Feng Shui, and that the person who doesn’t share it would be “without money.”

Let me say that this isn’t some dumb teen - my friend is in fact an adult and a mother. You’d think someone of her experience would have more sense.

Oh, and looking at the post on my friend’s FB page now… three of her friends shared it too. :smack:

Yes, fair enough, you lot are right.

My mother and sister are both reliable for passing along this kind of Facebook folderol.

Just yesterday, I believe, my sister shared a desperate plea for people to be on the lookout for these two missing children. Who, as you can see from the link, I discovered hadn’t been missing since April.

Let’s hope he gets better.

I can accept that someone might buy into the idea that this is called “moneybags” and only happens once every 823 years. It is inexcusable to post this without checking a calendar to find out that this month doesn’t even have 5 Saturdays, 5 Sundays and 5 Mondays.

If we stipulate to the definition, 2013 doesn’t seem to have a “moneybags” month. December 2012 was one, and March 2014 will be.

But he has always been a newt. We can hope he’ll be a better newt.

That was my exact thought too, although this month does in fact have 5 Mondays. Just not 5 Saturdays or Sundays.
