Monopoly...Reading Railroad

Diamonds are a girls best friend. :smirk: :gem:

I think there’s one that says “Take a ride on the Reading Railroad.”

That sounds like a card Son-of-a-wrek would palm. And discard. I will be checking.

If the youngun’s are havin’ too much trouble playin’ nice, just take the Monopoly board away and send them all outside with a nice set of Jarts to play with. That’ll shut 'em up.

See Lawn darts - Wikipedia if that name is unfamiliar to you.

I’ve heard tell…

Or any of the fine products sold by Mainway Inc, such as Doggie Dentist or Bag O’ Glass.

Yes! I know what you mean. I am desperately seeking the classic version of the computer game. the one with the normal board and normal play without all the bling. It seems to have just disappeared about 5-8 years ago. There must be some way to get this again.

I grew up close to Reading, Pennsylvania so for me this was obvious. I heard the town name many times as a child.

Ooh, be careful, lest the kerfuffle escalate into a contretemps, fracas, or the dreaded donnybrook.

Curiosity got the better of me, so I researched Short Line and discovered the phrase is a descriptor — a shortline railroad is a small or mid-sized railroad company that operates over a relatively short distance relative to larger, national railroad networks. There are 603 shortlines in the nation.

The Monopoly SLRR is based on the historic Shore Fast Line.

Research rules!

We all need to take a ride on the Aitchison, Topeka and Santa Fe.

Pardon me, boy, is this the Transylvania station?

Ding ding ding go the Trolleys…oh wait, different Movie. Same Judy.

(Chattanooga Choo Choo? My foot…)

I’ll bet we played the same one. Just discontinued. That timeline is right. I’ve tried many others and they all are crap.

I still have a useable version of Risk, but I can always win. Rarely even a challenge.

I bet that the Reading in Pennsylvania is named after the Reading in Berkshire (pronounced bark-sure) England.

Nothing like the prime yellow and green properties around the Go Directly to Jail corner. $200 isn’t that big a deal, you get that every time you pass go. It helps to have any property but I’ll trade away a railroad to obtain those hot spots.

When I was a kid, we sang it as “the Aitchison, Topeka and Chevrolet”.

Yes, we were weird kids.

The Reading Railroad is of course long gone, but the Reading Terminal in Philly is an active and vibrant shopping center in the heart of the downtown. If you are ever in Philly, be sure to visit it.

It is pronounced snollygaster.

Wow, I knew that some British spellings were funny, but spelling “bark-sure” as “Reading” is right up there with Throat-Warbler Mangrave.

I see your Throat-Warbler and raise you a Luxury Yacht.

I’d rather catch the Katy, and leave her a mule to ride.
