In the eastern churches the title is Archpriest for both Catholic and Orthodox. it is an homorary title given to those who perform a special function. Or pastor was made an archpriest because he runs the Rman archdiocese’s office for interreligious affairs.
Given all of the sex-abuse problems the Catholic Church is having these days, I doubt anyone will be looking for a “homorary” title.
We had a monsignor at Blessed (now Saint) Agnes when I was a kid growing up in Chicago. I remember his different wardrobe and thought, incorrectly, that he out ranked the other priests in the parish.
