Montana is on fire, and smells like it.

Man, it’s smokey here (Helena).

Montana has about 40 wildfires burning that are greater than 100 acres. The total acreage in the state that is on fire or has burned is approaching 200,000 acres. There are more fires than firefighters.

I played golf this afternoon and in nine holes we counted at least 15 fire planes taking off. Visibility is about three miles and the whole world smells like a wet campfire. My sinuses are killing me. And because of the smoke it’s like living in an igloo. Missoula is worse - the Griz have moved their practices to Butte.

And the worst part is, we’re stuck like this until we get snowfall. A week of rain would do it, but that isn’t going to happen. Billings has now gone 53 days without measureable precipitations.

And any day now, the forests may close.

Merde.

I can sympathize. Nearly every year the interior of AK lights up and the prevaling winds bring the haze down here. It mixes with the volcanic ash and the glacial silt and can really be a pollution problem.

Can I complain about the NYC smog killing my sinuses, or is this nature only?

Either way, I’m with you.
