Daybreak, not a cloud in the sky, Sun is the same dim orange disc as yesterday.

The Weather Channel website informs weather conditions for the entire Northeast US are Smoke. They even have a little icon for it.
There’s no smell of smoke - these are the Montreal fires and a freakish Northwest wind has prevailed for four days - which brings the smoke aloft at 12,000 feet.
And it might get worse if the individual fires connect.
Italics mine
<nitpick> Montréal is not on fire. These fires are located in the James Bay area, 500 miles north of Montréal. It would be better to refer to them as either “Québec’s” or “James Bay forest fires”.</nitpick>
In addition, the Northeast US has reason to be concerned about these fires. They are occuring near a major hydro dams complex. If they reach the power lines or power stations, there might be a nasty surprise when next winter comes around.
We’ve got the smoke in the DC metro area, too. Yesterday was far worse than today – it was a weird haze everywhere like the clouds had fallen with a faint burning smell around you. Weird.
