Nice! I hardly ever win anything (especially when winning involves any kind of skill on my part).
Since it’s an October theme, how about ‘spooky/ moody/ atmospheric’? Or maybe ‘buildings/ architecture’? I took a look at past themes, and other than bridges it doesn’t look like we’ve had many themes on man-made stuff. Or something completely different; I’m easy. What do you think, @romansperson ?

ETA: While I’m thinking of it, how much photo editing is okay? My spooky photo got that way by playing around with some tools like contrast, color balance, and so forth.

I like ‘moody/atmospheric,’ though we did do its close cousin, ‘shadow and light,’ right around this time last year.
I’ll throw out a couple more ideas and see if we can collect a few comments over the next day or so, then we can pick from there. Sound OK?
- We could go with a wider theme of just “Fall.” Allows for a wider range of choices/interpretations,
or
- We could go with ‘the color orange.’ Or make it harder with ‘the colors orange and black.’ Could be any subject, but the color(s) need to be in the photo.
I like this idea, not incidentally because I have a metric ton of Fall color pics, as I’m sure many other Dopers do as well. So it should make for a good amount of submissions.
I’m good with ‘the color orange’ too, though I think ‘orange and black’ together might be too limiting.

Well, if you are taking suggestions from others, I, too, like “spooky” for October. It would give people a chance to shoot for the contest or use a past photo.

I think it’s limiting for our non-US participants, though, where Halloween isn’t a thing. Hence something a bit broader, like “moody/atmospheric,” leaving the specific word ‘spooky’ out. I would rather not have people think something Halloween-related is preferred.
I’ll post something to the rolling discussion thread where more people are probably going to see this and see what we get in opinions by this time (8 PM EST) tomorrow, and then we’ll let mmm know since he needs to post before he leaves.
I like the “moody/atmospheric” theme, too.
