Monty Python catalog is coming to Netflix

Netflix is getting the entire MP catalog – TV and movies:

I’m glad Netflix hasn’t completely abandoned non-original content.

I have some eels in my hovercraft!

Now I don’t have to keep pulling up clips on YouTube every time I make a Python reference my wife doesn’t understand. Now I can make her sit and watch all of it with me!

“Now first of all, why would anyone turn into a Scotsman?”

I teach a college class in the Python programming language, and it’s amazing how little college students know about the origins of the name Python and why IDLE is called IDLE. I play some video clips (Dead Parrot, Spam song, Favorite color), and they laugh at them. I just hope they’ll see now Python on Netflix so they laugh at ALL of my stale jokes.

Wow. I had never made the connection myself to either of those! (I’m not a programmer, but I’ve played around in Python for 10-15 years and grew up with Monty Python. Why it never occured to me to make the connection, I don’t know. And, while I generally do my work in vi, I am familiar with IDLE, but never made the connection to the actor.)

Also, the parrot is dead.

I have all the Flying Circus on DVD and haven’t pulled them out in years, so I probably will rewatch the whole thing and laugh myself silly. I loaned my Life of Brian DVD to someone I was attempting to educate in the ways of Python and never got it back, but I figured it was worth it educate somebody. My favorites are not the classic ones. I like the one where they are in the boardroom and Graham Chapman is doing an American Texan-ish accent and nobody can disagree with him. It’s much like what i imagine the White House is like now. I also really like the one where the ladies league reenacts the Bombing of Pearl Harbor in the mud.
