On Oct. 15 all five surviving Pythons are appearing in a rare reunion at the Ziegfeld Theater. (Graham Chapman, the sixth member of the troupe, died of throat cancer in 1989.) And starting on Oct. 18 the Independent Film Channel is devoting a whole week to Pythoniana and will broadcast one episode a day of “Monty Python: Almost the Truth (The Lawyer’s Cut),” a new six-hour documentary about the troupe, along with some of the “Python” films and episodes from the first season of “Flying Circus.”
Suicide pact?
Yesterday was the anniversary of Graham Chapman’s death (Oct. 4.)
And today is the anniversary of the broadcast of the first episode of MPFC.
Splunge!
Didn’t something very similar happen only a few years ago?
(I remember Chapman attended as an urn)
You’re right! They just had an anniversary, a few years ago!
I was just thinking, they could do a reprise of the Parrot Sketch with Graham in the role of the parrot. When John Cleese walks on stage, he’s got a parrot cage with an urn in it.
Yep, but it was 11 years ago in Aspen.
Time flies, right?
I seem to recall hearing that they did something very similar to this at Chapman’s funeral or memorial service, though I am not sure of where I heard this so I cannot vouch for the veracity of the claim.
A few months back, Michael Palin was on Craig Ferguson’s show, and announced the Monty Python reunion shows, but mentioned that John Cleese would not be participating.
He (Palin) also seemed to indicate there is some bad blood between Cleese and the other Pythons, but did not elaborate.
I hope that fences can be mended for the upcoming reunion shows.
It must be hard making a living when your fans all shout out old songs like “I’m A Lumberjack and I’m Okay”
Did he say splunge?
I think the reunion (depending on the involvement of one Mr. Cleese) could be splunge.
I’m hoping Mr. Cleese is involved and it ends up being the awesome side of splunge!
Yeah. Splunge for me too!
So all three of you think splunge, huh? Well now we’re getting somewhere.
I’d love to see a reunion of the remaining Pythons.
