Moo Shu Chicken, or, Foods You Only Recently Tried and Now Love

Holy Thunder!

I bought tonight, for the first time ever, some Moo Shu Chicken from my local “New York Style” Chinese takeout restaurant. It is delicious! I especially love the strange brown sauce they gave me (Brown Cream of MSG, I think it’s called). And the thin “pancakes.” I’m getting full and loving it.

I also recently tried French Vanilla Tea, for my sore throat, and can’t imagine not drinking this stuff (I flavor with honey). It is tasty and soothing!

What palate-pleasing foods have you tried (for the first time)recently?

I love mu shu! The brown stuff should be hoisin sauce. Very tasty is mu shu.

I recently tried mujadarah at a local middle eastern restaurant. It’s lentils and rice and carmelized onions on top. It tasted strongly of cumin, very nice.

Actually, I have become quite adventurous since my brother became a chef. I end up liking the majority of new dishes I try. Which leads to a bit of a problem weight-wise.

Believe it or not, garbanzo beans. I’d recently picked up a new flavor of Hamburger Helper (Spicy Taco), and was reading the back of the box about suggested additions. It recommended them, so I picked up a can (not really sure what they’d taste like, but figuring it was a good time to find out). Delicious.

Tandoori chicken-I can’t quite remember the exact name of what I had, but I’ll have it again as soon as possible.

Mojitos-lime and mint combined didn’t sound good to me at first, but I was intrigued and decided to give one a try when I saw them on the menu at Bennigan’s, of all places. Yum, yum, yum. I wish they were served more places.

Natto. Take soybeans, put them in a jar and forget about them. Let them ferment until the smell is so bad that your neighbor’s dog finds where you’ve hidden them. Eat.

I’d heard so many horror stories about how bad natto tastes from both foreigners and Japanese that I was afraid to try it for some time. Finally, it came as a side dish with breakfast at a restaurant so I decided to give it a go. Delicious.

There’s a restaraunt by UT’s campus kinda hidden off to the side behind a cleaners that serves hamburgers and African food. Kinda a bizarr combination, but I went there with a friend not too long ago, and had this amazing chicken dish from Ethiopia, I believe. Red rice, and chicken so tender it just fell apart in your mouth. I can’t remember the name of it, but that’s alright because I couldn’t prounounce it properly anyway. But DAMN, it was goooooood.

Also General Tso’s Chicken. Pretty good stuff.

Prawn or chicken Lhaksa and Sze Chuan King Prawns - oh yummy

But I am on a strict 12 week diet with 8 weeks left and can only fantasize about such culinary delights. :frowning:

I never tried broccolli til I was in my twenties.
I love it!
I also never had Chinese food til around then also.
My mom wasn’t much of a cook.
