What does everyone think of the Dodge Challenger that came out last week at the Chicago Auto Show? It’s got a 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque - now that is what I’d call cool. Definitely my favorite of the returning muscle cars.

Challenger

Definitely a cool looking car.

Have to admit, tho, the idea that they are coming out with 400+ hp cars in today’s fuel economy strokes me a a little sad.

(Sorry - I don’t intend this as threadshitting. I truly like old muscle cars. But just the other day I commented on how glad I was to see what I perceived as an increasing number of compact cars on the streets. I understand in our current culture folks are able to drive whatever they want and can afford. But IMHO, I’d like to see a buck or 2 additional tax per gallon.)

It looks pretty cool to me. The only problem I have is it actually looks a little too much like a 70 Challenger, but not quite. It kinda looks like a Matchbox version of a 70 Challenger. It’s a little softer looking. I’ll hold judgement until I see one in person.

That’s one of the things I like most about the car - it looks so similar to the 70s version. Check out this side by side comparison shot. It’s a good representation of the 70s car and still has its own look.
Old and new Challenger

Ha, they’re auctioning one off on ebay in Petty blue. Current bid $55k.
