I saw some pictures of the new dodge challenger they are bringing back in a few months. It’s definitely an awesome looking car. Seems to very true to the original but really sleek at the same time. I can’t imagine what it will be like seeing cars like that on the streets. What do you all think of the muscle car revival?
I’m happy to say, that looks pretty badass. It has two doors like a proper muscle car, unlike the new Dodge Charger.
And they’re actually giving it a V-8, and rear-wheel drive…
6.1 liters works out to 372 cubic inches…it’s not exactly a 426 Hemi, but I suspect it’ll probably get somewhere *over *8 mpg
Gotta love Chrysler.
The build quality will be questionable. The body may squeak, the disc brakes will. The engine’s head gasket may need to be redesigned and the dealer’s service department may be hopeless… but they know how to make beautiful cars.
Hmm, Wiki says the 426 Hemi put out 390hp. I assume that’s SAE gross? How many is that net? 210?
6.1l is about where the new Camaro is going to be, I think.
Yeah, but Ford has announced a 40th anniversary edition of Steve McQueen’s Mustang from Bullit —> http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jxp7WqCSfYp0FsBdWRNCghF6zYcQ
It may have less horsepower than the Challenger, and it’s a Ford, but let’s be real here.
Steve McQueen.
Bullit.
Mustang.
'Nuff said.
I’ve been lusting over the new Camaro and I can’t wait for them go come out so I can give one a test drive. Then I’ll wish I had the money buy one, sadly get back into my '92 Camaro and remember that it has served me well for 15 years.
I’m really a muscle car purist but I do think the new Challenger looks at least better than Ford’s current Mustang. But if I had the money I think I’d rather buy a restored vintage Challenger than the new one.
Hear hear. Of the three, Camaro will be the one to top. The Challenger isn’t a very imaginative interpretation of the classic car’s design so much as an outright copy. The Mustang is way too conservative and I’ve thought its design has suffered from day one due to the lack of a shoulder haunch aft of the doors. The Camaro, however, has it all in spades. Sleek, razor sharp modern lines, shoulder haunches and all. It actually conveys the essence of Camaro in a modern idiom, and without being an outright copy like Challenger. I think it’s design perfection. I really believe the Camaro will outsell the Mustang and Challenger put together.
Wow, I hadn’t seen pictures of the interior of the camaro until now and I’m not sure I’m a fan. There is too much going on for me… all the lights and the styling of the gauges. It’s just not for me.
I’m more of a Dodge fan all around so I definitely would pick the challenger over the others. I think part of the appeal to the challenger is that it is so similar to the 70s version so I wouldn’t say copying it is a bad thing. The new model takes the style and lines of the old but smooths them out, which I like. And then the interior is modern and updated. I think it looks sweet!
I’m somewhat inclined to agree … it is a bit busy but then, it is a concept. I like that they’re harkening back to the classic interior, but I’m sure the production interior won’t be as flashy. Chevy’s comin’ on up (the new Malibu is gonna be a hit right out of the starting gate) but I doubt GM is about to put a showcar interior like that in a production Camaro. Hard to say these days, though. Probably best to reserve judgment until we can actually sit inside the production models.
Why not see it in action? Check out the movie Transformers. BumbleBee starts out life as an 74 Camaro and then later turns into a 2008 Camaro. I like it, but I don’t like it’s projected price tag. I’ll stick with a 90’s Camaro for now.
I’ve been wanting to see that movie so I’ll check out the camaro at the same time. I might come back with a different view. What is the price on it? I saw on Red Letter Dodge that they will be coming out with some Challenger specs and pricing info after Thanksgiving. I’m definitely interested to see what they share.
I saw the movie (well, now I own it in HD DVD) and while I loved the older Camaro in the movie, when he changed to the new Camaro – I. Wanted. It. Now.
Of course, I still have to wait. So I am trying to convince the wife But she says no, I have too many cars already. We’d have to build more garage bays. Already I am trying to hold in my three garage bays:
06 Caravan;
06 Sentra
03 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 xcab
79 CJ7
Maxx amphibious
Kubota L2800 tractor
07 SeaDoo Jetski
And outside is the pontoon boat and landscaping trailer. And the old boat that will die a firey death this winter in a bonfire.
I was thinking of building a barn, then I could fit everything in. But justifying 60k for a new barn, to buy a 30k car? It ain’t happening (or so she says )
Wow, you do have quite a few cars! I think that barn is definitely necessary, haha. Good luck convincing! I know that I would have a very hard time being convinced of that.
Well, which is it? A SeaDoo or a Jetski? Or do you have both?
The only problem with the camaro, Is at the end of the day it’s still a GM
and?
(Careful, our opinion of how open minded and intelligent you are will be formed by how you reply to this. A good answer would be “There’s a bunch of cars that appeal to all kinds of people. Automobile ownership is an emotional thing that has very little to do with perceived quality.”)
I could not agree more. The “Charger” was built as the “Enforcer,” a car designed for police departments. A committee decided to bring back the classic name to help boost sales. My username has been getting me riled up behind my keyboard ever since. It’s a great car, the Enforcer. Everyone should call it that.
I have been anxiously waiting for the return of muscle cars, in style rather than just name (I’m also looking at you, GTO). I just want a new car that doesn’t look like a brick or a shoe.
Not if history has anything to say about it:
“First-year Camaro sales trailed those racked up by Mustang by a wide margin”
And…
Then IIRC in the last production year for the Camaro, Mustang sales out paced the Camaro by more than two to one. <–No cite, correct me iffin Im wrong…
