Here come the muscle cars

Weird, when he switched from the old style to the new I thought I might cry. Such a pretty car voluntarily choosing to turn into an anonymous blob of plastic? I hadn’t felt so betrayed since Pamela Anderson bought herself a new rack.

That’d make a GREAT kid’s story for our modern age:

Pamela’s newfound Rack

I agree with that statement(i’ve owned an Alfa Romeo) i should not have been so vague.
I’ll rephrase… The only problem with a Camaro for me is that it’s a GM and if they were giving them away i would not have one.

I love the exterior, and would consider checking one out, but they had better do something about that interior. American cars are notorious for their cheap, plasticky interiors. Just because it’s a muscle car doesn;t mean it has to have a circa-1970 interior. Gimme some supple leather and amenities and we can talk.

I want the Firebird back. The new Camaro looks very nice, I’m not sold on the Charger. But I like the retro looking Mustangs, and the ones before them were nice, but in a different way.

Heh, The BMW 6 series is basically a Bavarian Firebird T/A, if you can live with the heart-breaking ugliness.

Nah - it’s gotta have the pinstripe-y firebird on the hood and the cool tail lights.

I’d like to get an older one as a fix up car when I have disposable income. Becoming better with cars would help too…

Of the three, I think the Mustang, specifically the Shelby eats both the Camaro and the Challenger alive. That’s not to say I don’t admire them, I do, but even as the owner of a Dodge, I wouldn’t drive one of those if they were handing them out.

Personally, as much as I like the muscle car revival, I will wait until I can afford This Beauty right here. This way I can admire the sleek lines and nice paint jobs of the new muscle cars in my dual heated power mirrors.

Are you really saying the 6-series is ugly? Good god, I think it is the best looking car I’ve seen since the V8 Vantage.

Omniscient, I’m not sure what’s more insulting: the fact that he thinks the 6-Series (the best looking BMW in the entire lineup) is ugly, or the fact that he actually compared it to a Trans Am. The only thing a BMW and a Firebird have in common is that they’re both RWD.

What’s so surprising about that? They’re both enormous 2 door coupes with large engines that aren’t good for anything other than going fast in a straight line and telling the world how small your penis is. Driven by mostly the same type of people too. I’m not pretentious, but I do have some sense of aesthetics, so if I had to choose, I’ll take the flaming chicken. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nothing pisses me off more than the ‘car vs. penis’ size. I’d bet it’s universally stated by people that don’t like cars.

If I don’t like pianos, I don’t equate the tone of your baby grand to your genetalia.

If I don’t like your food, I don’t eat it, but I don’t suggest you don’t get laid.

If I like how a car makes me feel, why to you assume I’m ‘compensating for something?’. No more so that someone who cares about their appearance, or exercises to be in good shape.

(course, that what I get for being a minority in the demographic for this site.)

I wouldn’t worry about it, Blank. Anyone who actually touts their superior aesthetic as it applies to the F-body Firebird probably isn’t someone you want to have an automotive styling discussion with. I thought the Firebird was cool once too … for about ten minutes … when I was 17. This was, of course, before I actually drove one. Never meet your heroes, I guess. The thought that that anyone could actually compare it to a BMW in any way (much less the tired “genital compensation” route) is a pretty solid indicator that I shouldn’t bother listening to what they have to say about cars. Anybody can design a flamboyant car like the Firebird. It doesn’t take any skill. The real talent is in designing something with grace, proportion, and classic appeal that doesn’t become outdated within five years, which is why even despite the fact that I like what the new Camaro has become, I still favor the look of the old E24 6-Series (or even the new 6-Series) over any muscle car by comparison.

Compare apples to apples. The neighbor HAD a 6 series for about 8 months before trading it in for a 335i…said the 6 series was a good grand tourer, but a pig around town.

The 6 series is a $75,000 car. I’d expect it to be better than a car that costs [strikethrough]two thirds less.[/strikethrough] half as much.

Pshaw. More philistines like you just leaves more F-bodies for me.

So you want more than one? Does each add a compensatory inch?

way to kill a thread anam.

Yeah, I suppose right after Throatwarbler said Firebirds are for men with penile issues and then admitted to wanting one, my curiousity to understand why is definitely enough to kill the thread.

Maybe I can kill it further by asking you when a Firebird ever cost between $37,500 and $50,000.

I figured since you were dealing with the current BMW 6, you’d also be considering current potential Camaro pricing. Serves me right as I thought you’d bitch about the ‘2/3rds’ the price comparison. The price for a 6 series BMW, from their site, is $75,000.

As this isn’t the pit, I’ll not follow this train of thought any further. Nothing I’m going to say or defend will change your opinion, so it’s not a constructive use of my time to do so. I would much rather there BE an relatively inexpensive high-horsepower vehicle ‘for the mullet class’, than your apparent view of how things ought to be.

EDIT: After reading the source above, I realized it’s not authoritative. The V8 Camaro is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $30k with equipment. (Yahoo | Mail, Weather, Search, Politics, News, Finance, Sports & Videos) In 1992, a V8 Camaro was roughly $27k new, so cresting $30k would not be unexpected.)

I wasn’t sure about the interior either but I have to say it’s growing on me. Everything looks so sleek - black leather with chrome/silver accents. Definitely a modern feel on the inside. Here’s some pics .

I read that Dodge is releasing official Challenger specs and pricing soon after Thanksgiving. I’m definitely interested in seeing what this car will cost and also how many they will be making.
