Utterly pointless, and particularly so for those not familiar with the place, but has anyone else noticed that Stelco looks like Mordor from across the Harbour in Hamilton?
Was doing the driver bit for my mom as she checked out houses in Burlington by the harbour, the realtor quite pleased to be showing us these houses with a “great view of the harbour.” My mom out of nowhere just pipes in “But it looks like Morodor”
Laughed my ass off at the realtors expression (she owned a house in the area).
Had to admit though, looking across the water at the steel plant it did look like Mordor, with the rust covered towers and the spewing flames.
Made me think really, these houses are not exactly cheap and people willingly pay these ridiculous sums to be next to the lake… and get a post apocalyptic view for their troubles…
Again, not really any point to this, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar impression.
Ever seen those little houses all mashed together on the strip down there in the shadow of Dofasco? You can’t hang your laundry out to dry, it gets black flecks all over it. And the aluminum frames on the windows are all pitted from acid rain. The soil is black with soot. That whole area might as well be Mordor.
(I was born there and lived in the area for 37 years. How are things back 'ome?)
Tough to find pics…here is the view at night, and one (mostly) from the OPs vantage.
The problem is the north shore of Burlington Bay is residential and a very nice area to live in and is on the water, but to the south across the bay is the steel industry of Hamilton is also on the water. Stelco and Dofasco have very nice views across the water…
