The Department of Justice will take on enforcement of civil rights in education, while the Department of Health and Human Services will oversee special education.
Trump campaigned on getting rid of the Department of Education, putting all education completely into the hands of the states with no federal oversight whatsoever. That way, red states can feel free to indoctrinate people into MAGA stuff, push Evangelical Christian values, discriminate as much as they want, etc.
He found to his dismay that he can’t actually get rid of the department. It takes an act of Congress, including 60 votes in the Senate which the Republicans can’t accomplish even if they were completely willing to support it and not worried about its impact on their reelection. So instead, he’s doing all he can to make it as powerless and irrelevant as possible.
It’s sort of like having an employee you can’t fire, so instead you have them doing the most miserable, menial, absolutely useless tasks that you can assign them. Basically, the next best thing to actually firing them.
Except for the federal oversight he wants, of course. I’m sure he’ll still enforce civil rights violations against white people. Like the violation of their right to have a DEI-free education.
I imagine he’ll put that in the hands of the Department of Justice, as this recent article suggests. But what else is new? The DOJ is nothing but a bunch of thugs meant to attack Trump’s political enemies while under his control. And the DOJ and DHS are certainly not above completely breaking the law in doing so.
