IQ1) Is there a class of machines named after you?
Well, there’s… and then there’s… huh, and, then, well,… and… take another DQ.
IQ1) Dang it. I really thought you were John von Neumann! You should have been. What an utterly fascinating character.
Umm…I’ll reserve my DQ for now if I may.
I’m struggling here, I feel another kickself coming on…
IQ: Did you propose a theory of evolution by inheritance of acquired characteristics?
Hmm. Charles Darwin, Alfred Wallace, not thinking of it. Take a DQ.
Darwin and Wallace were evolution by natural selection, evolution by inheritance of acquired characteristics was Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, whom I suspected was too early, but just couldn’t get out of my head.
DQ: From West of the Rhine?

IQ1: Are you a pianist and a politician?
IQ2: Are you a Hungarian mathematician?
IQ3: Is your father, Fenton, a famous detective?
Sigh. Take 3 DQs.
Yes, it’s Jerry; the gym teacher nicknamed his pal George Costanza “Can’t-Stand-Ya.”
Jelly Roll Morton; here’s a favorite example of mine, “The Crave”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkrt8CEG0-Q
Princess Jasmine, in Aladdin, by the Genie (Robin Williams).
Please don’t do any research. This game is supposed to be entirely from memory.
DQs:
Born in or north of Vienna?
Died since 1950?
IQs:
Are you regarded by many as the best actor to ever have played a particular role from 19th C. British literature?
Did you turn the phrase “Honey, I missed you” into a pun?
Did you say, “Son, they’re all my helicopters”?
Not even after I ask the questions? I’d have a lot of unjustly earned DQs if I didn’t look my choice up afterwards and withdraw questions that I rendered misleading because of a misconception I’d had.

I’d agree that Jeremy Brett did the best job of playing Sherlock Holmes as any I’ve seen. I’m not him. Take a DQ for #2. I’m not LBJ.
I see no problem with you doing research after the question’s asked. It’s before that we should only use our own grey matter.
The rule has always been no research at all, unless the Gamemaster du jour needs to do so to be sure he or she is correctly answering a DQ. I think we should only ask IQs to which we already know the answers. If we research after asking questions, we’ll probably have more withdrawn questions, and also learn things in our research that will prompt new IQs that we didn’t know before. This game is a particular form of trivia contest, not a test of research skills, which in the Age of Google is no fun at all.
Stout fellow - quite so!
Angelina Jolie, after shooting at her husband (Brad Pitt) in Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Yes, Lyndon Johnson, after being directed to a particular helicopter by an Air Force officer
DQ:
Nobel Prize-winner?
IQs:
Were you the son of an eccentric inventor?
Were you the daughter of the same eccentric inventor?
Did you play Niobe?

I like having the backstop that allows me to play at the edges of my knowledge, but if that’s not kosher I’ll rein my IQs in. I noticed on wikipedia that there’s a variant wherein a DQ only counts if another non-chooser gets the IQ - I’ve been tempted to try that but I’m unclear on how well it would work with so many players across different timezones.
Hypothetically, supposing I had posted my question about John Paul II without doing post -question research and either the Prof or a third party had come forward to say “Hey, that question’s wrong - his middle name began with J” - what should have happened?
Take 3 DQ’s.
Usually the person who’d asked that question would withdraw it, and not ask any earned DQ. Or we might discuss it and reach a consensus.
