Jane Porter’s from Tarzan, but I don’t know her nurse. I am not Ethel Mertz.

However,
I am **Edna St. Vincent Millay! **

Good one, SCAdian!

Now we should probably start a new thread.

I am not Dame Edna Everage. I am not Eddie Izzard. I forget the captain’s name.

If SCAdian hadn’t figured out the riddle, you’d have a DQ.

So close

Edmond Dantes, the Count of Monte Christo (who got his fortune and title from the Monte Christo island).

I need to stop forgetting about games I got involved in over the weekend. Congrats SCAdian!

Correct as to the first two. The captain was Edward J. Smith.

Congrats, SCAdian!

Jane’s nurse was Esmeralda. Correct, of course, on Ethel and Edna.

Pure luck that she popped into my mind as I was writing the last set of IQs. I knew she was female, thought she was probably American, and was fairly sure that she wrote poetry, but those three bits of info weren’t much to base a question on. On the other hand, I figured the initials would get me a definite “yes” or “no” answer - no need to dance around rephrasing the question a time or two, as sometimes happens.

New thread coming up…

Here’s the Sept. game thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=701275
