Yeah, lets avoid that one.

The problem is too many other options:

Weather terrible, work from home.
Weather too hot, cold, or wet, drive the electric car (costs about $0.50).
Weather nice, take the motorcycle (costs about $1.50).
Weather bad, but EV already claimed, drive truck (costs about $7, or more likely, work from home)

This is my big hangup. I want to do a dry run, particular to sort out a few places where I need to transition from bike paths to surface streets, and back to bike paths. Problem is, finding the time. After work I have other responsibilities, and on the weekends I’d rather spend time with the family take care of household chores veg on the couch.

Not necessarily. In California, for example, a Class 3 bike cannot have a throttle. I believe that’s the standard that the industry organization (cite needed) has adopted as well.

Do it on a weekend or day off. Don’t do it after you have worked a full day, or you may overestimate how tiring it is.

Also, if you have never biked more than, say, 5 miles on the particular bike, work up to it.

I had to get used to how an ebike handled before I could ride 1-handed even long enough to signal a turn. I put the first 15 miles on the bike just riding around my apartment complex, until I could signal, or get a drink from my water bottle, without swerving.
