More formal term for "body-double"?

I’m thinking of whatever the person would be who stands in for a royal or important figure during events to keep the actual person safe in the background - for a stupid example, the situation in Star Wars with Amidala and her handmaidens.

The specific term needs to deal with the replacement as a ***visual ***representation of the person, and preferably to also reference their having power to take action in that person’s name.

I’m not having any luck, and I don’t want to invent a term if there is already an established one.

Many thanks!

Bait.

Doppleganger In Fact?

Combines double with power of attorney.

Hey, you didn’t say it had to be elegant…

…ok, let me add “elegant” to the list then.

Thanks for the suggestion tho.

And while “Bait” is technically correct, we’re going for euphemisms here.

Proxy? Ringer? Locum tenens? Or simply stand-in?

“Body double” is the most used phrase. But I suppose political decoy is good too.

Stand-in?

Thanks for the answers - I ended up using locum tenens, but political decoy was actually the phrase I was unsuccessfully wracking my brains for.

Stunt cock?
