More good news for same-sex couples, not in USA of course

Israel will recognize limited partnership rights for same-sex couples, relating to property and monetary issoes. This follows a court decision earlier this year recognizing gay survivors for purposes of inheritance.

New Zealand has passed a partnership law encompassing such things as inheritance and medical next-of-kin status.

And in anticipated good news, the supreme court of Canada is expected today to release its opinion on the constitutionality of draft marriage legislation submitted to it by Parliament. Assuming it passes muster as expected, Canada could have national SSM by the end of the year (currently the marriage decisions are on a provincial/territorial level).

Well I was damn happy about the civil union bill passing. Personaly I think it is far better then “gay marriage”. Civil Unions afford any couple legal rights, no matter who they are.

YAYYYYYYY NZ for realising that marriage is only a way for religion and law to approve of a 2 people joining their lives. Civil union means those 2 people no longer have to be of the same sex…or do the god bit. In the words of our humble leader (paraphrased) “I wouldn’t have married if I could have had a civil union”. And shes been married for 20 plus years.

Civil Unions already have their own term. CUPS.

And it’s a go!
