More kidney stone surgery; wish me well

I have a rather large stone in my right kidney. The biggest problem with it is that it’s on the wall of the kidney, and if not removed, could rupture the kidney
That doesn’t sound like my idea of a good time, so Friday (the 25th), I will arrive at the hospital at 7:30 am. I will be in a state of conscious sedation while I have a cat scan to have a tube put in my kidney that leads right to the stone. Then, over to the OR, where I’ll be knocked out, and the doctor will widen the opening in my kidney until it’s large enough to pull the stone out.

If all goes well, I’ll be coming home Saturday or Sunday, but probably won’t be up and at the computer until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

The last time I had this procedure, I had a really bad experience with blood infection right afterwards, so I’m a little nervous. Good thoughts, good vibes, prayers and well wishes will all be appreciated. Thanks!

Best wishes headed your way! I hope they give you some good painkillers.
Just take it easy, and drink lots of water.

My husband gets kidney stones every so often, but is always able to pass them. I always make him feel better by looking at it and saying, “That’s it? That little thing? Honey, when you pass a 7-pound stone with shoulders, then we’ll talk.”
('m kidding; I know it hurts.)

OW! norinew, I’m sorry you’ve been hurting. Hopefully everything will go well and you’ll be feeling better soon. Good thoughts and prayers are heading your way.

Good luck! I’ve had three kidney stones, but was able to pass them all without surgery.

“Get well, get well soon,
We wish you to get well!”

Damn, norinew, not again!

Good luck. I’ve had kidney stones, but not to the point that you’ve had. I wish you well.

BiblioCat, until about five years ago, I was always able to pass them, too. But since then, I’ve had to have six procedures (this will be my seventh) to remove them. The first one I had, when I was 15, I passed it and it was the size of a match head! I looked at it in amazement and said “That was causing me that much pain! That doesn’t even make sense!” I’ve had some fairly large ones since then; this one is about the size of a golf ball.

DeVena, thanks!

I don’t personally know anyone who’s had them to the point I’ve had them! I’ve known about this one since my last procedure, and knew it would have to come out. Hopefully, once we get this one taken care of, it’ll be smooth sailing for a while! ::crosses fingers and says a quick prayer::

My first one was about the size of a large bread crumb, and the nurse said it was a big one. But A GOLF BALL???

Sending warm thoughts your way.

Well, I say that for illustrative purposes; I’ve never seen a really round one. But it is about two inches long. Don’t really know how wide. The good thing is, it’s too big to move much, so I’m not having a lot of pain from it (which is okay, because I’ll have plenty of pain after the surgery!). I will, however, insist on good pain meds. Unfortunately, my doctor does not prescribe Dilaudid, which would be my choice (just because it works so damned fast). He does, however, do morphine, which doesn’t suck either.

Good luck and good health, Nori

Sending south Jawja prayers, thoughts, good vibes and best wishes your way norinew. Here’s wishing good drugs on ya too!

I’ve never had a kidney stone but I’ve seen what my BIL goes through with em.

Hoping everything is all well and good real soon.

Eek.

Ouch.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the morphine. There is nothing in the world like good pain meds when you really need them!

Dear norinew:

STOP EATING ROCKS!

Love,

God

PS. Love ya! Mean it!

Dear God
No need for me to eat rocks; my right kidney is perfectly adept at growing its own! :stuck_out_tongue:

If I had a golfball sized kidney stone, my wife would be the first to claim that it migrated down from between my ears.

 Holy crap!
I hope everything goes well with your surgery and recovery. I’ll be thinking of you.

Best wishes, Norine. Maybe you could get that non-doper husband, or pre-doper daughter of yours to let us know how you’re doing. Get well soon.

I think there’s a pretty good chance of that. I know other folks aren’t supposed to post on my account, but I’m guessing that under these circumstance, the mods might be pretty forgiving. I’ll have one of them post to this thread Friday night or Saturday morning.

Well, I just spoke with hubby, and he says he will indeed post to this thread, either Friday night or Saturday morning, just to let y’all know everything went well. I’ve also found out more about conscious sedation, and am encouraged by everything I’ve found. When I first heard of it, I was nervous, but it doesn’t seem I have any need to be.
