An all-too-rare addition to James Lileks’ Institute of Official Cheer, Spider-Man Zaps Mr. Zodiac. Enjoy! And watch out for those Giant Flying Scales . . .
Classic Lileks! Thanks for the link.
::pugluvr greedily reads the new Lileks addition::
(chortle) Great stuff! Thanks, Eve. I’m a Libra, and I’ll never see my sign in exactly the same way again.
Hey, what happened to his “Interior Desecrator”? That was my favorite piece of his. I haven’t seen it for awhile.
I think he has a book coming out with that theme and has dropped it from his site. In another area, I’d recommend checking his collection of motel postcards and commentary.
Should it disturb me that I owned this book once?
My parents bought it for me in a desperate attempt to keep me occupied when I was nine years old and laid up in the hospital with a kidney infection.
I love Lileks’ stuff, and I’d be laughing harder, but it’s reminding me too much of pissing dime-sized blood clots.
I still have my copy.
I’m surprised that Lilek skipped the best part. Mr Zodiac doesn’t get his powers and then get trapped in the cave. IIRC He gets them while trapped in the cave. Through starvation, oxygen deprivation and boredom he discovers that he can ‘send out signals’ to reshape his body. He then learns that he must do this at least once each day, or turn to dust (or flatten into an ancient parchment, or crumble to dust like an ancient parchment, or something). Yes, turning into the signs of the zodiac is the key to immortality
For easy reading, lite Spiderman stories, I preferred Spidey Stories. Afterall, E Z Reader guaranteed that they were easy to read.
i especially love the gallery of regrettable food
