Apparently the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show has cut ties with Pedigree because Pedigree’s ads featuring homeless mixed-breed dogs made the dog show people uncomfortable.
I nominate the Westminster Kennel Club for the “Lalalala-I-can’t-hear-you” award.
If I weren’t already familiar with all of the actors, I’d have easily mistaken Best In Show for a real documentary.
It might as well be real, it is very very accurate. Dog show people do a lot of good for dogs (money into health research, rescue, education) but they are all a bunch of fruit loops.
I am biting my tongue to post a civil reply to this.
I have shown dogs off and on for close to 30 years, but I do it for the love of the dog, for the fun of it. I am thoroughly disgusted by what the Westminster Kennel Club is doing. Not ALL dog show people are shallow fruit loops as said in this thread. You can’t paint us all with the same brush. I have MANY dog show friends that regularly rescue and foster, who thoroughly support ALL dogs, not just the show dogs.
I plan on writing to the WKC and letting them know that I will no longer watch or support their show.
But please understand… just as all football players are not Michael Vick, not all who enjoy dog shows are anti-rescue, and that is a very insulting view to have for those of us who do all we can to help ALL dogs.
I spend my weekends (and much time during the week) working with a rescue/transport group, getting dogs out of bad situations and into new, loving homes. My Saturdays are spent at a horse rescue, working with starved, abused horses. Look at both sided of the story before pointing fingers.
snobs always have to ruin everything.
Still holding my tongue.
Please refer to my post above yours jz78817.
It should be clear that I wasn’t referring to you.
It’s still a generalization tho. I am BEYOND pissed at Westminster for this and I am making my voice heard.
[removed call for action]
I didn’t say all of WKC were snobs. I was referring to the snobs within WKC (who are apparently influencing the organization.)
But see… the exhibitors, the people who show there, and NOT the ones that made this decision. It is the Powers That Bee who run WKC. Most of the 'dog show people" I know are just as angry about this as you & I. Do yu understand what I am saying? This is the sport, the hobby I love above all others, and in saying that all dog show people are fruit loops and snobs it is the same as saying all basketball players are drug addicts, all football players support dog fighting and all hockey players are child molestors.
I am just asking everyone to think about that. Be as pissed at WKC as you want to be, because believe me, I am, but don’t think everyone that shows dogs is evil.
Quit being so sensitive. He’s referring to the people who made the damn decision, and he’s absolutely 100% right to call them snobs. Add my name to the list of people who think they are.
Again, he’s not referring to the secretaries, or every last person associated with the organization. But, if the WKC made this decision, then it’s perfectly okay to refer to the WKC as snobs.
Don’t tell me how to feel. I stand by my opinion. I agree the WKC are being snobs. The dog show fancy is not.
Nobody said they were, for Pete’s sake. You’re tilting at windmills.
I hate elitism! WKC’s recent decision is just that, not to mention arrogant. I will continue to appreciate Pedigree’s support of rescue shelters and animal adoption. I will not watch WKC Dog Show.
well, don’t tell us what we’re saying to you.
Their dog show is how I discovered that Penny looks like a wire haired dachshund, although she isn’t.
Here is a contact email and phone number. Rather than arguing amongst ourselves, why don’t we all work together and let them know how we feel?

Okay. Good idea.
What’s another word for not pure breeds? Mutts? Mongrels?
Does Pedigree contain animal digest?
TBH, Pedigree isn’t that good of a dog food.
