Is god alive? How about the angels?
Are they non-alive?
There are no gods. Get with the program.
Things that don’t exist cannot be alive.
The angels are fallen… God is callin’…
They are alive in the minds of those who believe in them. Otherwise - not so much.
God is certainly alive! I met him on the park the other day. He looked a bit dirtier than you’d expect but he definitely had the right beard. The smell was truly holy.
Most of the Angels are alive, with the obvious exeption of Farrah Fawcett.
You’d have to clearly define “God”, “angels” and “life” for that question to be usefully answerable.
Is a unicorn alive? As it is typically portrayed, yes. Something doesn’t need to be real for it to be defined. The problem here is that God and angels are defined both vaguely and contradictorily. And scientists still have trouble defining “life”, although at least with that they have actual examples they can point to.
Yes to both questions.
I agree fully with Der Trihs. Define this god you speak of. If you mean the biblegod, I certainly hope it’s not alive. If he actually DID exist, we would fare better if we found ways to ignore and destroy him/it before we foolishly worship something that violent and indifferent.
Also, by the standard rules of English, if you’re using the word “god” as a proper noun—a name or title—it ought to be capitalized. If not, it should have an article or qualifier. This would make it a little clearer what you’re trying to ask.
But given strange aeons, even death may die.
That’s a scary position to take.
But I do agree, “God” must be defined before engaging in any debate. And the definition of “God” is entirely relative, depending on the situation – for example, if you’ve screwed up big time at work and your boss must decide whether or not to fire your sorry ass, your boss is “God” in that situation.
Is God “alive”? Well…that depends. If “God” exists (in any given situation) then “God” is at least sentient and/or sapient, and therefore alive. But if you’re defining “God” as the Supreme Being, the Alpha & Omega who exists beyond SpaceTime, M-Theory and every extant dimension of Creation – then IMO it’s a trick question, because God doesn’t exist. There’s no need for any Supreme Being, once your soul ascends that high up the ladder – therefore, within that particular scenario (which is the one I assume you’re asking about) the question’s entirely moot.
Oh, and angels definitely exist – but whether or not they’re “alive” depends on what kind of season they’re having. ![]()
As others said, I think it’s a question of definitions. Even as a Christian myself, I have a hard time applying the term “alive” as I think of it to God because it carries various connotations with it. From a biological perspective, it just doesn’t make sense because he’s not biological, so I would say no. OTOH, if you mean it in terms of existing, as in “living God” or whatnot, then I would say yes. I would say much the same for angels, although I don’t believe in them in the traditional sense, as they would also be non-biological beings.
But how else might you define life. Would you say that an artifically conscious computer is alive? It certainly doesn’t do the typcial biological things that we associate with life. And, however you define it, it’s either a yes or a no, and I’m not sure if that really gets that the underlying question you’re looking for.
Well said.
Oh good! We have two people here who know this God and angels exist.
Please tell us what they look like.
As an avatar of the divine Jesus Christ has the powers of levitation, clairvoyance, telekinesis, matter manipulation, resurrection, and directed energy blasts that destroys living tissue. Fortunately, being a zombie, he is classed as undead, so a fenix down or curing spell will destroy him instantly.
God is a trickier matter. She is immune to physical attacks and absorbs all elementals. She also knows and sees all past, future, and present, so if she sees you somehow beating her she can act to prevent it. Consulting with Lucifer would be a good lead. You’re either going to need to convince people to stop believing in God thus sapping the source of her strength, form a party of plucky teenagers with the power of friendship, find an artifact to shatter her immortality (it will be somewhere in an alternate dimension at the bottom of an ocean of blood in a temple made of bones guarded by eldritch abominations or some such), or find a way to destroy and recreate the universe, becoming a god yourself.
Things that don’t exist cannot be alive.
Fair enough, but they can’t be dead either.
Things that don’t exist cannot be alive.
A concept can be alive.
I’m going to answer the question as if we were talking about Star Wars.
Assuming you mean Yahweh and his angelic court, the answer is “it depends.” That is, the angels’ baseline condition is to be immaterial, so they are not alive in a biological sense; they have no bodies. But since it is within their power to assume material forms (in most versions of Jewish & Christian myth), they could be considered biologicially alive while doing so.
Yahweh is a somewhat different story. I could easily be wrong, but most versions of Christian myth I can think of consider the Incarnation of the Son to be a singular event in history. I think his physical body is thought to have stopped existing sometime after he left the Apostles’ sight at the beginning of Acts. If so, like the angels, no part of God could be considered biologically alive at this point, but of course it would be within his power to incarnate again. However, I don’t think he’s thought to be inclined to do so before the Second Coming.
Both Yahweh & his court, however, have minds and consciousness. In that sense they are certainly alive.
Of coruse, assuming we’re talking about Athena, the answer is “Damn straight she’s alive!”
