Unfortunately, that was the last showing until September 6. You can watch it on line by following the link here or record it on 9/6.
Hmmm, I went back to the site to point out QAM but I couldn’t find it. Wow, I must of imagined it or something, I could have sworn I saw it there. Usually, in the tuner description QAM would be listed if the tuner supports it. At least the TV I linked to, does not appear to have QAM capabilities. The digital ATSC tuner is only for over the air digital signals. Here is my TV for example (though I don’t use it’s QAM tuner at all): http://www.westinghousedigital.com/details.aspx?itemnum=111
In fact it doesn’t look like ANY of the TV’s on their website support QAM
It’s not looking good for your mom and digital channels. It’s still worth giving it a try. Do you get the analog signal from the cable line on your TV at all?
If so, at the very least you can stay on analog and split the line for your VCR.
Yeah, I do get the analog signal on cable, direct from the VCR, no splitter required. And I didn’t THINK I’d seen anything about QAM on the spec page, but I thought maybe there was something else that meant QAM but I didn’t know it. Because I (obviously) really am an idiot about this stuff.
Thank you muchly. Oh, and the Bush’s War show is pure documentary gold. Just wonderful. No viewpoint, just the facts.
It looks like the FLX3220F doesn’t have QAM.
DVD Talk - DVD Movie News, Reviews, and More (The second poster was wrong.)
Yeah, the guy’s a dork. He would appear to have a 3210 and way too much caffeine, way too little English. Interestingly, the 3220F also doesn’t have a headphone jack, which that same jerk said it did. I know this because yesterday we went out and spent $7 and change at RadioShack buying an RCA/headphone jack adapter, there being no port for a headphone jack on the television. Or is the jack the hole?
Honestly all this jumping through hoops seems unnecessary. A DVR+Tuner provided by Comcast will meet all your mom’s needs and then some. Yes it is a new thing to learn but really not all that complicated. If she can work the VCR, particularly in this kludgy setup you are contemplating, she can learn the DVR. My mom is a technophobe but even she sorted it out and it sounds like your mom could too. In fact it is so integrated and seamless a system just using it a day or two will see her using it like a pro.
The only barrier to this is the added cost. If that is an issue I guess you are back to jumping through hoops.
No, I think we’re going to stick with her current set up, with which, as I said above, she is quite content. She doesn’t want to pay for a DVR and it wouldn’t buy much of value to her - she doesn’t record very often. Filling the screen with HDTV just isn’t that big a deal, especially since we can do that with many DVDs anyway. And we think (I’m going to test in about an hour) that we may get some free HD channels - the basic network channels and PBS. I say we simply because we both get the same cable, but I don’t have an HD TV, so it wouldn’t make any difference for me.
ETA: But thank you all for your advice and research!!!
