My opinion is based upon having lived in Australia for a number of years. I have a great many Aussie friends. I’ve been the butt of Aussie humor on more than one occasion, and been complimented on my own retorts to such humor (directed at me) that I passed the unofficial mate test. I’ve also witnessed numerous Yanks in Oz who were so clueless to Aussie humor, even when it was dumbed down to the point the Aussies were in stitches rolling on the floor and I had to translate the joke.
I cannot tell Aussie jokes here in the States because they just go by everyone.
What’s fun though is when I get perturbed at work I can cry out, “Bloody Hell!!” and no one pays me no mind. Had I said it in Yankspeak, “Oh, fucking shit what the hell is this crap!!” and I’d be out of a job more often than I care to admit.
Geez, I do miss the chin wags and grinners. 
It’s just a form of protest, that and a few real wackos really do believe in the Jedi order.
