More than just another see-the-pretty-bird website...

…I think, anyway.

I’m not much of a birder, but I lucked across this site

http://www.whatbird.com/

and it has some very nice features. Like a game, Avian Sleuth which you (and the kids) might like to try. You simply try to identify birds as they come into the picture, and it’s multiple choice (in the easy mode, anyway), so you’re bound to hit on the right answer. You can choose your environment - mountains, fen, etc., and set the difficulty - easy medium hard.

there’s lots more there, as well.

I happened upon it trying hear the call of a few owls. Got two, but not the third. Listen to the call of the barn owl. If you have the sound turned up, it’ll scare the daylights out of you.

Ooo thank you! What a great site! I got to hear a chickadee sing again ~sigh~

I did the barn owl too…very spooky!

Cool! I didn’t get to spend a lot of time on it, but I was able to identify the tree swallow that tried to scare me away on my hike this morning by zipping inches from my head. I guess he didn’t want to get his picture taken.

Also, I got to play bird sounds and freak out my cat.

I love it! I can’t believe I haven’t come across that site before.

Thanks!

Maybe once a month ot so, I go looking for bird Songs on the web, and yesterday was the first time I happened on this site. I’m so glad you all liked it, too.

While you’re at it, if you like birds, you should check out www.EagleCam.org

A live cam of a nesting pair of Canadian bald eagles. Pretty cool!
